Excellent photos! Roland, your first one of the flower with the football shaped bokeh looks like a Noctilux photo!
 
Eeeek..

I promised myself I wouldn't "need" to go longer than 50mm but holy cow.. 75mm Summilux..

Quick question: what's a good price for this lens on the used market? I mean, I know it's going to be pricey but what is considered "reasonable"? Is Leica even making these anymore? I don't see them @ B&H or any other dealer brand new.

The lens has been discontinued. These days, you should be able to find a good one for roughly $2500. Lots of money? Yes. But wow!!

I should add that prior to getting this lens, I was a committed 50mm shooter. But recently, I have been photographing almost exclusively with the 75/1.4 and a 35mm. Once you get the hang of 75mm, it does feel very natural, at least it does to me.

I've got a line on one for $2700 - and ya.. that's pricey - but looking at these images and thinking "hmmm.. I adore 85mm for portrait work with my 5D's.. so why wouldn't I like 75mm on the Leica . . . " makes me think that it's not that expensive 😀

I think I'd be the same as you (committed 50mm shooter now but willing to be swayed) and I have been considering a 90mm elmarit but man.. seeing these wide open shots makes me drool. 😀

I should have made clear that $2500 is a good price for a Canadian 75/1.4. The German made lenses usually sell for a couple hundred dollars more.

From 1.4 - 2.0, this lens truly has a unique signature. It has quickly become one of my very favourites. I seriously doubt that you would regret getting one.
 
I need to get out and use my 75mm Summilux lens more often! It is large and heavy, and difficult to focus correctly at f1.4 or f2, but the images are superb. Too bad Leica discontinued it.

the summilux 75 was the second lens i bought for my m8. even with a 1.35 magnifier, i still have problems getting the focus right. as you've all said, however, the lens has character, and is worth the extra effort. the two photos below are from recent visits to the local hospital - one natural and one fluorescent lighting. thanks for looking.

summilux 75

i've been looking through this thread - there are some amazing photos here, not all perfectly sharp, but most with a definite "look" to them which i'd like to achieve with my own shots. here's a third one, of my current favorite model (a.k.a. mother-in-law) where i'm quite happy with the early evening light, if not with the focus on her eyes.
