75mm lens, Why do you use it?

I had a 2.5/75 Summarit for a few years that I used from time to time, sold it and all of the sudden missed that lens. I than purchased a CV Color Heliar 2.5/75 had it for a while sold it as I thought that 2/90 Summicron would be a better bet. I purchased one, but return it, as I just could not warm up to it, too heavy. So I purchased a 2/75 Summicron and it fast become my favoured focal length, love close focusing and lenses rendering, that’s it I will never sell this one. I do mainly nature and landscape, 2.0/75 suites me just fine (as well I use 28, 35, and 50 mm lenses). I use a Leica M (240).
 
i don't shoot a 75, but a 28/75 combo seems really appealing as a 2 lens travel kit. I wonder if any RFF people can comment about using this combo for travel?
 
I've had many 50's - A Noctilux, two summilux'es, and a summicron. I recently sold my 50 Lux as I prefer the 35 Lux to it for it's versatility. And the difference between a 35 and 50 was so small, that the 35 was almost always glued to the camera.

Also tried many wide angles (28, 24), 90 as well as 135.

After a lot of testing to find what I like, I recently got a good deal on a used 75/2 that was completely mint and just serviced 6 months ago.

My setup is now complete. My goal was to have a three-lens setup that offers a vastly different experience from each other (unlike the 35/50 combination I had before). I now use 21, 35 and 75.

I find the 75mm frame lines on my cameras not the most intuitive. Partly because I'm so used to the 50 frame lines, and also because the 75 frame lines are fairly small. They basically consists of corners only.

The 75/2 is a little bit heavier than I'd like, but I got it for about the same price of a new Summarit 75/2.4 which was the other option, as I wanted the close focus capabilities of the 75/2 or 75/2.4. Since the price was the same I couldn't resist, even though it is 100g heavier than the Summarit. I also really like the built-in hood. I hated the separate hood that I had on my previous 90mm Summarit.

I've noticed that the 75/2 is a little bit more difficult to focus than the 50/1.4, and that focusing and re-composing with the 75 is a bit more tricky than on the 50 - both wide open. But so far I like the 75's ability to isolate subjects but still get some of the environment as a part of the picture. I like that the 75 looks more like a 50 than a 90. The 75/2 must be the sharpest lens I've ever used also. It's just incredible.

Why? Because a 50mm isn't long enough and I can't focus the 90's reliably on my .68/.72 VFs. (I use the 75AA and really like its look.)

My M travel kit is either a 28/2 or 35/1.4 and my high-use 75/2. Great combo, simple, fairly light, very flexible.
 
Interesting to see everyone's opinions on the 75. I was leaning in that direction, most likely with the summarit and then had the chance to pick up a 90 summicron-m. Heavy little thing and although I like the rendering, I'm thinking that the new 75 summarit 2.4 may be the way to go. I'm thinking ahead to pictures of my future grandchild. Those few extra inches between the 2.4 and 2.5 sound appealing.
 
As a guy who loves 50's, the 75's ''see'' the way my eyes see on 35mm film.

I also find 75mm heaps easier to use on a RF camera than 90.

The 75mm Summarit 2.5 is a bargin right now due to the recent upgrade and I love it's blend of rendering, ease of use, and weight/portability.

That's my 2 and a quarter cents worth.

The Voigtländer Color Heliar 2.5/75 was the first tele I got for my M8. Why?
Because it was cheaper than any 90mm Leica and I thought it would be easier to use on the 1.3 crop of the M8.
When I also got an M6 and some 90mil lenses by Leica (Elmar 4/90, then Elmarit 2.8/90 and finally a Summicron 2/90), I still kept the 75mil Voigtländer because I like it a lot.

It also makes a very good lens on my Fujis. 😉

That's how I fell for the 75 about ten years ago! I was always a 90 shooter on RF but much prefer the 75. I have two now, but they might both go away in favor of a 75 Cron - which is one of my bucket list lenses.

For me, 35/75 is the perfect two lens RF kit.

... Although my 21mm is now the Tri-Elmar-M 16-18-21/4 ASPH (aka WATE). I like to shoot square format; the 16 and 18 focal lengths give me the wide angle FoV I like on squares.
