I got this lens in 2005, when it just had come out. Impressive quality - and extremely good close up. Initially there was a bit of a"clunk" the the floating elements relocated - but with use it is gone.

Another 75mm f2 shot - just last week. Classic 1947 MG TC - with a radiator cap that looks like it should be on a pressure cooker!
ORWO UN 54 moviestock - rated at 100 iso and developed in a 2 bath developer (Td 201 A3/B3 min).

Beautiful shots faris and tom. I really like its look on the film. This beast is so sharp, but it seems too perfect and sometimes little boring especially on the digital Ms. I have been trying to decide between the cron 90 and the lux 75. When I consider a lens, I pretty much go for its particular look rather than sharpness. So I wonder if anyone owns both lens and willing to give a brief comparison.

This lens makes the cut

This lens makes the cut

I purchased this lens when it first hit the market in 2005. As others have noted, what makes this lens unique is the APO quality with the ability to focus down to .7 meters. Handling is simple and to the point due to the short focus throw.

Over the years I have found a few faults, although minor and far from deal breaking. At middle apertures given the right light the lens sometimes exhibits internal reflections, noticeable only by a slight reduction in contrast. When shooting into strong specular highlights at f4 - f8 the aperture blade edges are oddly shaped (more so w/digital). The 50 Lux ASPH is even worse in this respect. I think Leica was aware of 9-blade diaphragm issue and this is why the 0.95 Noct and new 50 Cron APO have 11-blades. The effect is so much more subtle. I would comment on the awful frame lines but this is a camera issue, not a lens fault.

Petty faults I know…

In all, this lens has always delivered and done so reliably. If I was to own a single lens above the 50mm focal length - this would be it hands down. Feel free to view a few images taken over the years posted in the link below.
