I have used both the Nikon sb-28 and sb-80dx flashes on my 7II. One thing I like about the sb-80dx is that is able to work in wireless mode if you have another flash on the 7II.
My old flash was the Vivitar 285HV which was fine but except it had no swivel and was rather large.
Onbe thing I should mention is yuo should be very careful with flashes that have high trigger voltages as they will make your 7II an expensive paper weight.
I would just use the 285. It works great wtih the M7. There is no TTL so you are relying on the sensor of the 285 to measure flash output.
2 further recommendations, get a defusing dome from www.stofen.com and also buy their 285 sensor cover which is sort of like a blinder for a hourse--it allows the sensor to only "look ahead"
I have had no problems with the setup and the ability to sync at any speed means you can deal with the background anyway you want.
How often are you going to use a rangefinder camera with multiple flashes, hense the need for a smal flash on the M7?
Hi Bob,
I don't have a 7 but I use a Sunpak 383 and a Nikon sb-30 for my 6. I use the Sunpak for everything including bouncing off wall/ceiling. The head tilts and swivels. The Nikon is for daylight fill flash. I have never seen anything smaller and more useful than this tiny Nikon flash for this purpose.
