I had been looking for a reasonably small 90mm lens to go with my M9. I had tried a 90mm APO-Summicron, which is a fantastic lens, but I quickly discovered it was too big and heavy for my needs.

This morning, I came across a 90mm M-Hexanon f2.8 in perfect condition and decided to purchase it. I will be testing it thoroughly in the coming weeks, but I am already quite pleased by the rendering and by the balance of weight / performance / price.

I am looking forward to seeing what it can do in Head-Shoulder portraits.

the hex 90 is also my tele choice. nice size & price, built-in hood, and it's a sonnar. prior to the hex 90, my "right size" 90 was the thin tele-elmarit, another fine 90/2.8.

I had one of these beauties before. Sharp, with nice OOF, easy ergonomics.

BTW, I'm no lens expert, but I think it's an ernostar design, a close relative of the sonnar.

I have one and like it. Mine unfortunately back-focuses a bit on my M8, but for distant subjects that isn't a problem. I informally compared it against my 90mm Elmar-C, and it blew the Leitz lens away for detail and color rendition, and the Elmar is no slouch.

Mine was backfocusing, so sent it and my 50mm f/1.2 M-Hex to Don for adjustment. Now, after about four months, it is suppose to arrive on Monday. I like the built in lens hood and the size. I'm hoping that the focusing issue will be resolved.

Here are a few more shots from this afternoon.

I was looking for one of these for ages. Then a pristine 90mm/2.8 Elmarit-M, the last one made, dropped in my lap. Now I have the first and last 90mm Elmarits. I'll have to "make do" with the Leitz lenses.

Was don able to resolve the back focusing on the 90/2.8?
