That's gotta be the worst condition 1950 Leica IIIC I've ever seen with the chrome contamanation issues, geeze makes me wonder how the quality control at Leitz fell so short in the late 1948 to early 1951 period 🙁
(Lack of high quality products in production due to the massive postwar supply problems across Germany).

Thousand's of cameras have the "chrome pest" problem, along with the poor shutter fabric (low life) and also short life mirrors inside the VF.

Leitz didn't get their pre 1940 grade of quality control back till about 1954, with the introduction of the Leica M3.

Those 1948 to 1951 era cameras make good re-painter's 😀

509 serial number is definately post WW2- 1950 according to CameraQuest website. This would look really nice with a $500 paint job...

It's already past the CHEAP stage even as we speak. The Bay is truly a nutty place sometimes.

after a CLA, dechrome, repaint, wind spool aquisition and maybe new curtains and half mirror, it should be a hell of a camera...

A pet peeve when they are sold without the take up spool.

Yeah.......a Leitz original, that's a $40 item if you can find one, or also a Canon "pop up" spool works fine as well.

I would say the cameras worth $50 no higher, but evilbay and the Leica IIIC have been crazy lately...seems that ALL IIIC's no matter what age are bringing record prices, nothing is cheap anymore.

That bottom opening is for the slotted flash sync base, Leitz New York made them for pre 1951 cameras, before factory flash sync came out on the top of the camera.

The more I look at that camera the kooler it looks......NEAT serial number, but really bad Corrosion, like "someone left the camera out in rain" ........I would leave it as-is ~ it's those really nicely worn cameras that seem to make the BEST shooters 🙂 - I would just clean the green stuff/fungus off with some isopropyl alcohol, before the CLA/REPAIRS.

I had a IIIC K Grey once that was so worn out that it was repainted/ new curtains/ beam splitter etc. But, that camera worked so well, I traded it for a digital M8, I wish I still had it :/ - sigh!

Hi,

About that opening price: ebay is funny/perculiar; or rather, its users are.

A camera that sells for say £/$150 won't sell if you list it at £/$150 but will/might soar to £/$200 if it starts at 99p/c etc. (And the one at £/$150 will be ignored whilst they fight their way up to £/$200 on the other one.)

Also for me a 99p entry is free and a £150 will cost a pound or more. BTW, I've typed the UKP and USD symbols and hope they appear for you all.
