I recently bought a Zeiss Biogon 35/2 (like new) online, and there was Rigid Summicron (dirty) for sale too for $100. I took the risk, and I got both lenses, followed by sending Don Goldberg the Cron for inspection and cleaning.

Here are some results from the lens from a quick snapshots session with the M8 set to ISO 160:

I also took some photos last evening indoors.

Don's assessment on this lens is that there are some fine scartches both on fron glas and back glass, and this will make the lens soft when used wide open.

Good one, Raid.

I have a similar story: bought an M2 with rigid Summicron for 600. Sold the m2 for 550. Sent the lens in for CLA for 100. Leaves me with a clean rigid Summicron for 150. (All Canadian $)

Nice. It looks like it is back focussing on your camera e.g. the hair is in focus not the eyes/face.
Easy to compensate for once you know what to look for.

How can I adjust the lens?
Of course, there is a chance that I focused incorrectly

I wouldn't bother to adjust anything apart from focussing slightly forward of where you normally would. I have two Voigtlander lenses that focus slightly off - a CV35 1.2 that back focusses, and a CV 50 1.5 that front focusses. The beauty of using digital cameras is that you can very quickly make some test shots and see how much you need to compensate for.

I took some snapshots to check the back-focus "claim".

The eyes seem to be in focus, aren't they?

The front of the lens seems to be in focus.

The writing is also in focus.

The yellow flower seems to be in focus.

I wouldn't know what to do here, but from the last posted images, I see the lens to focus correctly. Maybe I am wrong here.

It looks to me like the lens is focusing correctly. I would be surprised if it came back from DAG not focusing properly. I've sent him quite a few lenses, and they always come back focusing better than my eyeballs are capable of.

Looks like a great deal on a nice lens. Did you use a hood for the posted images?

Remember, with the crop body M8 you can use a deeper hood than you would be otherwise able to get away with. With this lens it may be even more advantageous to find something as deep as possible.

For example: on my Canon 40D and a Super Takumar 50/1.4, I can use a hood that Pentax spec'ed for the 135/3.5, 150/4 and 200/5.6 with no ill effects.

I feel that using a mirror shot is a really good test of focus Raid, as it doubles the chance of error, if my optical physics is correct. And always good to see the person behind the camera and likewise great to see your children growing. My children have been documented over many of their 30 years of life.
