What are the bodies of the black paint CV R*M's made of? Will they brass over time? (Vanity, vanity)

i got a scratch on my r2m. silvery metal; i'd guess magnesium or aluminum ...
Both actually.

A magnesium body would not be much fun if it caught on fire, so the camera manufacturers make magnesium alloys with aluminum. the main share is aluminum, but for marketing that's not cool enough so the cameras are usually sold with "magnesium alloy body".

Under the black paint of my BessaR comes a layer of silvery metal coating and under that ... fanfare! ... white plastic.

Yeah, my Bessa R did the same. Upgrading to a body shell made from actual metal is probably the main reason why the R2/R3/R4 cameras are more expensive.

Well, I had a look under the top and bottom caps, so I hope they upgraded some of the gearwheels from plastic to metal too...
