I just returned from a vacation in Vancouver, BC. I took 3 Leicas with me: M9, M8.2 and an MP to shoot transparencies. The first day we arrived my MP jammed so I shipped it to Leica for repair (transport mechanism will be replaced = $475). Next day I was snapping photos with the M9 and had the M8 in a camera bag over my shoulder. I missed a step and fell over the curb hard and the M9 crashed to the ground. The camera bag also ended up about 3 feet ahead of me near the M9 which had bounced and skidded across the pavement (like a bad dream!). The M9 landed lens down and broke the lens hood of the 35 Summicron, then flipped over and smashed the glass screen protector. The screen protector was also cracked on the M8. Both cameras were in a leather half-case. I was amazed to find both camera survived without a single scratch. I replaced the screen protectors and no damage underneath to the Leica screens. Even the alignment was fine though I'll probably send to Leica for a checkup after I get my MP back from New Jersey. I feel sore, but so lucky!
