Few weeks ago I've bought a decent scanner (Canoscan 8800f) for both 35mm and 120 films. Now I have opportunity to share my photos taken with my Iskra. It has been a while when I bought that camera from alex-photo. I’ve bought it very cheap because it has been back-holed and converted to 6x4.5. First, I’ve made a couple of quick improvements accordingly to Ruben’s tips (thanks Ruben!) and shot a dozen of rolls since then.

I simply love this camera because it fulfills all my expectations with a beautiful lens, viewfinder, hand holdability, ergonomics and even aesthetics. But there is one thing which intrigued me all the time. I don’t know why but I’m constantly thinking about reconverting it back to the 6x6. Since I’m planning to do some major resealing, releathering and blackening the inner side of the top plate, what do you think about that reconversion? What are the pros and cons? To 6x6, or not to 6x6, that is the question? 🙄

The first two photos – Efke R25 – medium-yellow filter – Rodinal 1 +50 8min 20oC
The last one – Fuji Superia 100 – f3.5 – converted to b/w in PS

Terrific images, isnt it a joy to have mf images to scan. I dont know the camera so must look it up. Unless you really like the square format, and I do, you dont gain any extra film area for scanning so on that basis you wont gain much. Its why I dont use my 6x6 much. I use 6x7 or 6x9 simply for the ease of scanning since I dont have a darkroom for printing anymore.
Again really like the image composition and tonal range, I tend to shoot colour negatives and convert in CS, best of both worlds.

Great shots! I have a 6x6 Iskra (not converted) and I think the conversion was done to eliminate uneven frame spacing, mine shoots well for the first few frames and then starts to "meld" frames together slightly 😉. Converting back to 6x6 would be a hearty task I believe. I like the square format so I deal with the slight overlap in frames for now. Good Luck.
