A Good 25mm at least f2.8?

I use the ZM lens and find it excellent and fraction of the cost of the Leica. Other than that, I can't think of any other fasr 25's although the rumour is out that CV are due to introduce a new 25 and this may be 2.8.

I don't know anything about that lens. Is that the 25 f/4 listed on cameraquest.com?
If not can you point it out to me?
Thanks!

it's the cosina made zeiss designed 25/2.8
popflash sells them.

it's ia a wickedly sharp lens.
elsewhere i have posted a few pics from it.
one shows a long shot of a city block and then a crop of a small section showing the marque of a movie theatre.
very sharp. probably the sharpest lens i own.

The new Voigtlander lens is not imminent, according to Stephen Gandy - although he knows the 25/4 is being discontinued, there's no information at all re its replacement.

I need something more wide angle for my R-D1, and might end up with the Zeiss, but $900 seems like a lot to pay for what will effectively be a 40/2.8 lens...

I don't know if you're new to RFs but I am and one of the things that has surprised me is the low shutter speeds I can use, especially with wide-angle lenses, while maintaining sharp images.

For example, I've taken more than a few shots with my CV 21mm f4 at 1/2 sec or even 1 sec without noticable camera shake at 8.5x11. So while I'm saving up for a 2.8 lens I'm still able to get some nice shots with my f4 in the meantime.

Not an ideal solution, to be sure, but perhaps workable in the short term. The VC 25 can be found used quite cheaply so that may also be an option.

Is anyone familiar w/ the CV 25mm finder? I'm considering one for use w/ a Zeiss 25mm lens. The only other finder I've used is a Contax 21mm and it was prone to distortion.

I have one of the earlier ones without the bright lines. There is a slight distortin there but it gives you a better idea of what the picture wil look like in the same way as you get the different persective in an SLR. Another alternative is to use the brightline 28 finder. This nicely covers the 25 full view and is therefore dual purpose. 😉

What do you mean by that?

That's what the Zeiss lens would act as, effectively, on the R-D1, ie for $900 it would do what a $250 Summicron-C would do on my M4, and slower to boot.

The VC 25mm is scale focus and vignettes badly on the R-D1, unfortunately, so choice is restricted, particularly if you want a compact lens.

I thought Brian was looking for a 28 to go on an R2A. 😕
