Not just XP2 but all neg film. It doesn't really matter with colour neg as ICE on a scanner will correct the scratch and if you are using a diffuser enlarger you won't see the scratches unless they are really big.
If you don't use a condenser enlarger you are probably not aware that your XP2 is being scratched. The only way to guarantee scratch free neg film is to process it yourself or pay for professional hand processing.
Are you sure it wasn't your camera. One wee tiny bit of grit on the backplate and it will scratch the whole roll. Or did you get a wee bit of grit into the light seal of the casette.
I clean my cameras out on a regular basis to avoid this. Usually in camera scratches are very fine and don't show even on a condenser enlarger, but you can get unlucky.

I printed my first shots from a roll of T-Max 400 and WOW that film is nice. Almost NO grain on enlarged shots. The exposure latitude is also really really good. I tred some night exposures from 1 second up to 2 minutes and all were very evenly exposed. This is a great film. Thanks for helping me select one that will work for me.
