It was a naked 21mm lens - no filter (not even the IR we are meant to wear these days on the M8).
To be fair the clouds were naturally quite impressive.
I boosted it but transferring to blavck and white in Raw converter, making blues dark etc, then, in photoshop, by dividing the photo into three parts and varying levels in each to obtain a nice result.
A friend said he thought the clouds looked too defined, almost unreal, and I had gone too far. But that was what I liked about it as it made it look almost as if the view was a slightly surrealist painting instead of a natural sky. Having the balcony in front of it emphasised this for me.

It's nice. The effect is almost that of putting a red filter over B&W film. The guy looks ... depressed. I hope he didn't jump!

Yes... I think the combination of unrealistically dramatic sky and the depressed-looking guy made a great subject treatment.
