My new elmar suffers from light😱 Even an image taken in diffused light can be washed out if not shaded

I used my enormous square hood for my summitar but its not great to carry and hold but works very well😉

I noticed that ebay sells Leica look hoods for 2€😉😱

Where can i look for a correct push on lens hood

A very good hood is the FLQOO, but unfortunately it is rare and expensive.

A cheaper way is using a couple of Leitz filters with a set screw (they fit into one another) after the glass is removed.

Splaaash, which Elmar 3.5 are you talking about? 3.5cm or 5cm?

Eric, do you mean FLQOO?

Yes, I mean FLQOO, I am sorry for my mistake.

The FISON is also OK, but the black ones are quite expensive too and maybe they vignette on the Elmar 35mm f/3.5. The FLQOO is better still, because it provides room for your fingers to change the f-stop.

Erik.

I have the FLQOO on my Summar (both I purchased recently in the Classifieds)

Looks great, and feels great at the very nice price a fellow member cut me.

I suggest posting in the Want To Buy section of the classifieds here, your more likely to get a good price from RFF over eBay.

Oh,

If you like those cheap "Leica Looking" vented hoods, there is a easy hack.

A 39mm vented hood will slip right over an A36 push on filter. No cutting or grinding.

Ive found, that some of these cheap hoods fit looser than others, so a bit of gaffers tape around the A36 filter rim makes for a tight fit.

You could also make a step-up this way, I have a A36-40.5 I made (with a 39-40.5) which also makes for a decent hood.

I just Googled FIKUS and (as I expected) they seem to go for a lot more than FISON. Somewhere I have both FISON CHROM and VOOLA. Having seen the prices maybe I should dig them out!

Cheers,

R.

The FIKUS is front heavy and tends to fall off. It looks ugly on the small Elmars. It is better to invest in a nice black FISON or, if you can afford it, in a black FLQOO. They keep their value, are easy to resell, are good and look gorgeous.

Well, in terms of elegant looks and function. I agree the FLQOO is nice, and if you can live with the shorter coverage, the FOOKH is lovely. It will play nice with your Elmar 35mm and Summaron too (if you had such lenses) and look so nice.

Unfortunately, the nice-looking hoods are expensive. Next best is the FISON if you need to remain "all-Leica".

BTW, one reason I do like the FOOKH on the Elmar is I can reach in and change the aperture without removing the hood. I find that near impossible with a FISON on the front.

Another option I use is the SOOGZ (A36 to E39) adapter with an aftermarket 39mm threaded hood. I actually use this most with my Elmar and the Summar. I hear that the SOOGZ is also rather expensive, especially for what it is. There was once an aftermarket SOOGZ out there (and inexpensive) but I don't think its made anymore.

Then there's the ol' A36 filter hack that B-9 mentioned. Works.

BTW Erik. That is simply one of the most beautiful Leica I images I have ever seen. Every time I see that photo, I get a strong urge to locate and assemble that exact same setup -- body, lens, hood, case, strap. Even the chair 🙂

I hopped on eBay and snapped up a real FISON for $35.

Sorry OP. Thanks all for mentioning it. I needed one for my 5cm Elmar and a Nikkor LTM 5cm f/3.5 collapsible I just found cheap.

Indeed my elmar is a 50mm f3.5 collapsible, for which i need a lens cap as well

Ive been looking for a 35mm for ages at least an affordable one under $5000

The Leica I with FISON. looks really good ----which again id like a Leica 11 black body the Leica 1 is of course wonderful but the leica 11 has a rangefinder (and tends to cost less)
