My wife and I met and married in 1998. When we met, we both drove Subaru's. And also when we met we both were avid photographers. She had a Nikkormat FTn given to her as a present in 1974 by her parents and I had a Nikon F, bought used, also in 1974.
Crazy right? And oh we both still drive Subaru's. Ok I'll shut up.
P.S. we both still have those classic Nikon's.

Akiva, touching story and the fact that you are still together speaks volumes.
Keep your Nikons and Suburu and continued good luck.

It was motorbikes with us. I was sitting on my 1969 Triumph Trophy in 1972 and an attractive young woman said to me "I'm getting my own bike soon." She did, and our relationship started getting more long-term. We're still together now, many miles later, and to re-live the past I have bought a 1970 BMW. And a few Leicas :)

My wife and I have no interests in common, but she is intelligent and funny and has put up with decades of my photography obsession. We married 19 days after we met, and here we are 38 years later!

I gave her a Canon S100 once, which she carries around faithfully, although I don't think she has taken a single photo with it.

Lovely story thanks kshapero. My wife and me both are passionate photographers, very different styles. It's nice to share such a passion, we do not share gear usually! My cameras are my cameras, her cameras are her cameras!

Yeah! What bags were you're Nikons in?
Did your lens collections complement each other?

Thanks for sharing!

I have an A&A bag and an old filson messenger bag. She uses a 20 year old Nikon kit bag (I beg her to get rid of it.) The lenses we have in common are our non AI 50mm 1.4's. I also use a 28/2 and a 105/2.5. She uses mostly the superb AiS 50/1.8 pancake (I think because it is so light and it sits nicely on her Nikon FM2n). But...she is not stricken with GAS at all, so she has a lot more money in her savings account then me.

My wife of 38 years doesn't have a lot in common with me, except of course our kids and grandkids. She has zero interest in photography which is a shame, because she had a good eye for it. She does like flowers, and is a whiz at keeping them in top shape, including repotting the at any whim. And they thrive. If I take a photo of any of them, she may briefly say she likes it, but a photo on the wall would not be welcome. ??

Her fibromyalgia limits her to the point that it limits me some too. But our love is still strong, and our commitment to each other firm. I hope to see at least a 50 year anniversary.

My wife's photographic skills are better than mine. She's so kind when I show her my images: "that's an ...... interesting one dear".

Same with me and the missus. She doesn't know a f-stop from a door stop but takes better pictures with her iphone than me with my fancy schmancy cameras. Married 28 years and her eyes still glaze over when I start going on about this camera or another. When we met I was a slighty crabby widower with 3 small kids and she was a smart, sophisticated lady with 2 small kids. She said she married me because I was dull. All her relationships had been full of drama and she just wanted stability.

hurray for dullest...:p

My wife and I just marked our 25th anniversary in October. Before we married I bought her
a used Pentax K1000 to replace one she used in a college photo class but was later stolen.

Twenty years ago I sold my Nikon gear and started using Pentax, figuring we would share lenses.
We never have, but after discovering the charms of the Pentax way I have stuck with them.

My wife is not technical. She just twists the dials on her K1000 until the needle is centered.
Yet somehow her photos come out better than mine most of the time, which is exasperating.

I like to do stuff. My wife lets me.

My wife likes to do other stuff. She lets me think I have some say in it.

Twenty years and still going strong.

We just had our 36th anniversary the other day. No celebrating, just another day in the life. I've always spoiled her with sewing machines, she has allowed me to par take in my car hobby. Now that I'm retired the cars are gone, the sewing machines are still there and being well used. I've got a few cameras I play with too. Life is OK.
