I'm sitting here at my desk reading for school, I have a small glass of Grand Marnier. The KM Multi Pro is about 10 inches from the glass. MY desk is very densely populated, I move to reach for the glass, things start to fall apart. . . the glass is thrown over blanketing half the desk with a very sticky alcoholic beverage. Many papers and bills are destroyed.

I had my scanner, as I always do when not using it, in a plastic trash bag (small one), tied and secure from the elements. And drinks.

If I hadn't the sense to cover the scanner, I would have just lost the Multi Pro - it's little breathing holes along the sides would have let plenty of the high velocity Grand Marnier in.

The bag got 95% of the spill. The rest went to the desk and papers.

I carefully removed the bag, cupping the majority of the liquid in its folds, and threw it away. That would have been 1 couple tablespoons of stickiness inside my scanner.

whew.

I've heard the Irish believe that after death their souls are dunked into a barrel filled with all the liquor they spilled in their life. Those who drown in the barrel go to hell, the others to heaven.

George spilt enough to go to hell. Just for spilling the Grand Marnier he should burn for eternity. :)

As a gentleman who occasionally has his drink at the keyboard, might I suggest putting the scanner well above the fray – literally – as I do? My 5400 (and my UMAX 2100XL flatbed) reside on a platform at the top of my computer desk, well out of the liquid (including alcoholic) line of scrimmage; in the event of the wayward pass of the hand against glass, the most that might be taken out are my keyboard and trackball mouse – no fun at all, but a relatively small financial hit. But at least you had the right instinct by bagging the Multi Pro. The shock of that near-miss, however, probably requires a nightcap. :)

My scanner sits on a second desk, I'd have to hurl my drink to hit the thing. However, I've been that clumsy on more than one occasion. So far, no dead scanners. Glad you had foresight.

As to your choice of tipple, I think tossing it on the ground is about the best thing you can do to it. Now if it had been Jack Daniels, that would have been alcohol abuse.

Best Regards,

there you go. Jack was the replacement. Have some in the glass right now, in fact.

Well I'm glad to hear you have excellent taste in drinks; Grand Marnier is what I always keep next to my KM Dual Scan. Haven't spilled any in a long time though - you might consider upgrading your glass.
