A new approach to raising funds.

Yep, good idea and glad to contribute. After I get home from this trip I am on right now I will be developing approximately 50 rolls of film. Hopefully I will have a few pics to try out the new membership type gallery.

and remember, the donation is a voluntary thing, there is no shame in not contributing if you cannot afford to or do not want to.
i hope and highly doubt that we will turn into a 2 tier forum.

i'll leave before that would happen...(is that a few cheers i hear?)

as a moderator, i wont be contributing, as i put tons of time and energy into the site already. do you think i should complain about having only a 5 pics per day limit?

I hope that with the added funds I can getthe facility to take care of our problems once and for all. Its been a nightmare and it has not let up. Whatever the case may be, this forum will run smoothly once again!

I did have some problems getting on this AM. Was it just me?

Our IT department at work leaves much to be desired - so I'm never sure what's what when I encounter US daytime problems here.

I had problems getting on late this morning until just now. Strange that, for me, the site went down just after sending my subscription 😉

Jon, except for those members who haven't customized their titles (a minority I think), is there any way to tell a "premium member" from an "ordinary member"?
What do you mean regarding "customizing titles"?

I'm in favor of *some* sort of signification that one is a paying member, if only to encourage others to become paying members by means of social proof and peer pressure.

exactly, otherwise others might not even know that they can help the site!

if you had a title, under your name on the left, that said registered member and did not change/custominze it then after buying a subscription it changes to premium gallery membership (or something like that).
if you had changed it then that title remains.

Because I like the "customized" title (and like to change them frequently) I put the "Premium Gallery Member" (m/l) in my signature......

Hmm, what if someone doesn't buy the premium membership but manually customizes his title to "premium gallery member"? 😀 🙄 😀

Karma, they'll get what they deserve.

I think it is a good idea and as soon as my paypal funds build up I will subscribe.

I used to subscribe to the digital wedding forum and it was worth every penny or dime or whatever.

If it wasn't for this forum I would not have discovered sean reid and not subscribed to his great reviews.

Jorge,

I do not think I will use the gallery, but just sent my USD 25. Wonderful site and I hope it will be there for ever.

Thanks

Peter

Frank , titke alone wont give your rights. youneed to be in a special usergroup and one cannot change that.

I'd be happy to contribute, Jorge. I do have a questions about the gallery and restrictions we have had in the past.

Speaking for myself, I shoot not only RF photos, but also SLR and some digital. I don't shoot MF or larger. In the past, we have limited gallery uploads, save for a few occasional photos, to RF photos. There have also been issues raised about "content" or "quality" of the photos. Lastly, there was a problem with some people in the past doing "mass uploads" which led to the current upload limit.

How will these be issues be addressed for members who are now paying for their photos to be hosted?

Is there a maximum gallery size per paying member (# of MB)?

Would I have to pay a separate site (like flickr, pbase or even PNet) to post my non-slr photos and only post RF photos here?

Would content be limited. Someone made a comment about photos of for sale items in the gallery. That is understandable, but once that person starts paying to post photos in the gallery, that would be a different matter. What about scrolling through two pages of photos taken at a birthday party for family to see? Should there be a "private" portion of the gallery not accessible without a password, and will not bog down the gallery "new photos" page?
