No offense taken ray, but I certainly hope you don't think you're speaking for anyone but you. I, for one, have enough "sense" to understand that I'm "entitled" to exactly nada. More Gallery space for a whopping twenty-five-whole-dollars to help with site expenses? Fine. I'm in. Jorge changes his mind tomorrow? Fine. I'm still in. He decides to pull the plug on this thing in the next five minutes and walk away? Fine. It's his site. I have absolutely no problem with that and still have the same sense that I'm entitled to nada.

As far as I know, and please correct me if I’m wrong, but for the last year, I believe I’ve been posting comments and photos here, on another man's web site only with his permission, not by some self-inflicted entitlement. And tomorrow, twenty-five-whole-dollars or not, I’ll visit again - by permission, not by entitlement. That's just my sense.

I am afraid you misunderstood me. I feel no entitlement, nor expect any. My fear was, as has been raised before, that with payment some members may expect such special treatment. Right or wrong, it is not mine to say. But, as it already has, this will prove divisive.

All I care about is that, with the expanded KB's, it'll make a computer doofus like me easier to upload the occasional picture that I feel others might enjoy (for whatever reason). I don't need special treatment, I don't want a special gallery, I want RFF to continue to exist. And if some folks can't afford it, I'm OK with that. Pay if you can, and if you can't, you can't.

C'mon people- it's not worth gettiing all bent out of shape over perceived 'freeloaders'. No one needs to know who is subscribing and who isn't. It seems enough people feel it's important enough to kick in some bucks to improve the site and keep it afloat. If you really can't pay it now fine. But if you can then $25 for the year comes to little more than $2 a month! Surely you spend a lot more for totally useless crap every month, or every day for that matter.

Jorge and Joe and all the others work on RFF for FREE. If they're willing to do that then we should help them out and count our blessings.

This thing started last night quite innocently.

Jorge was looking for some financial support. Unasked he came up with the idea of some kind of "enhanced Gallery" as a "reward".

Whether we cared or not, a bunch of us jumped in and put in some PayPal donations!

Now it gets turned into a friggin' elitist thing.

I said then, and I'll say again, keep your damned "Gallery privileges" and consider my cash a donation. That's all I ever intended it to be!

Anything misunderstood with that?

But damnit, if the Big Cheese wants to give me some kind of acknowledgment for doing that - how is it any skin off YOUR back?

That is what is going on here. Everyone wants the same privileges without having to pay the bills. And if some volunteer to help pay the bills they are excoriated if they get some kind of acknowldegment for it.

But when folks who do not want to help out are considered to be the "good guys" well tell me - how does that pay the bills?

Maybe there should be a list of what words are allowed. I wouldn't think 'f==king' would be one the allowed ones - regardless of how it is masked.

My 25 dollars are for Jorge to use to run this site and I could care less about additional perks that it comes with.

I agree, but go one step further and eliminate the Other gallery entirely. I don't think it's needed, really. I'm looking forward to the 350KB extension. That's enough for me. Now I don't have to create a separate file on my computer, at a lower rez, just so I can upload to the Gallery.

Rich, I don't watch 'Lost' anymore. After seeing a couple of episodes, I figured it was 'Gilligan's Island' on steroids. 🙂 Seems like nothing is ever resolved. Hmmm...maybe THAT's your point! 😀

Nothing you said upset me. I am not upset at all.

I am disappointed in Joe's response.

I contributed my funds last night without any expectation that it might include some kind of additional Gallery upload privileges. But I was pleased to learn this since I am (maybe now, was) a "fan" of the Gallery.

And it really wasn't a big deal - being able to upload 20 pics at a time has the downside of meaning I have to shoot a heck of a lot more mediocre pics to meet the "quota"! 🙁

And I thought this whole ideal was going well - heck, even some of the Euros were "chipping in" which, was nice to see.

Then tonight we get some folks complaining that they don't like the fact that folks who volunteer some extra cash might get the opportunity to post extra pictures.

That was the set up. As I guessed would happen, the idea of "two tiered" privileges (even if the "higher tier" was only and enhancement) blew everything apart

Sad thing is that it diminishes my desire to support this site. I had earlier suggested simply a separate "donor column" on the home page and that was considered too elitist!

This site is not going to get better w/o increased financial support - but I have "done my part" and will no longer support the freeriders.

Thanks for the reassurance, George. Too bad there's been hard feelings generated out of our support and good wishes for RFF. I will not divulge whether I contributed, how much, and when, or not; that's private I hope between me, Jorge, and the mods. As Ted so ably stated, I wouldn't look for even recognition, much less privileges. The important thing is that RFF survives.

I worry the Other gallery may prove to be divisive. Do you recall ever seeing comments on Photo.net criticising someone for statements made while not sporting a paid-member icon? I do, and wouldn't look forward to seeing that attitude here. Any kind of tiered public recognition has that potential, don't you think? Being able to upload more pics at once is pretty low-key, seems to me. 🙂
