A new toy - Sony NEX 7

I have had a rush of blood to my head and purchased a Sony NEX 7. (Don't worry one of their later full frame models is sure to be in my future at some time but not right now).

I have a Sony NEX 5 and in its time, quite liked it, both with its standard zoom and using my Leica and other lenses on adapters. But it developed an annoying button problem so I put it aside and do not use it much.

I would be interested in knowing how others rate the NEX 7 in terms of image quality, usability, fun factor etc. And seeing some image samples if you have them to hand. Any lens.

BTW while on the subject of lenses one of my favorites is the SONY 50mm f1.8 OSS. Its a cracker. The little Sigma 30mm f2.8 is no slouch either.
 
I started my Sony exploration with the NEX 5-N. I found the focus peaking really excellent for focusing manual-focus lenses, far better than with a DSLR. The Sony 50 f/1.8 is good and the Sony/Zeiss 55mm f/1.8 is fabulous. I use these or manual-focus lenses for portraits.

My next step was the A6000, a generation beyond the NEX-7. This is now my go-to camera. The menu system is completely new and far, far better (I think your NEX-7 has the new menu system).

Also experimenting with the A7. Enjoy your Sony.
 
The NEX-7 and A6000 are amazing cameras. Bought an A6000; but, unfortunately, the EVF and my glasses didn't get along. Not enough eye relief to see the whole screen, and the rubber viewfinder surround was not well designed, so sunlight washed out the EVF using my glasses. The NEX-5n is tempting, still. Might pick one up for a pocket camera.

That said, I loved everything else about the camera. Maybe they will solve that problem in the A7000, or whatever they call it.
 
I've had a NEX 7 for sometime and really like it. Image quality is top notch. I use the Sigma 19 & 30 and also OM lenses with adapter. For me, it is a better fit with the Gariz half case. Not wild about the menu layout, but can live with it. It and the X Pro1 are my digi bodies of choice. The dslr's have become shelf sitters.

I have same problem with the A6000; I generally use the screen, and I pull off my glasses when I need the EVF. The diopter control gives me a very clear image in the EVF, but that depends on your correction.

NEX-5n is a super little camera with frustrating menus. I say keep the A6000 and just use the screen.
 
I've been having a lot of fun with my Nex-7. I've got adapters for all my manual lenses now and try to use them all.
I don't have any 'native' lenses for it which has frustrated me as I'm not sure I've truly seen the full capability of the camera yet.
I'm saving for an A7ii as the IBIS is something I want as I grow older. I just haven't come to grips yet with selling my M3 in order to get one.
 
I prefer the image quality of the Nex 5 series especially at the higher ISOs. My Nex 7 died; Sony claimed it had internal corrosion but it never got wet... Anyway, overall a great system... (I got an a6000 to replace the 7). Main gripe is the shutter is too loud and mediocre kit zoom which I never use.
