despite (or because?) It was not used for nearly two decades it has developed the one ring for zooming and focussing will slide down slowly if you raise the camera in an angle....
Is there a remedy at all?
Thanks folks

On Pentax two-touch manual focus lenses, you can peel back the focus grip to reveal screws that you can tighten to reduce zoom creep. Perhaps it's the same with this lens. (Indeed, I did it with my old Pentax-A 70-210!)

Its pretty normal for Nikon E-series zooms to have a sloppy focus/zoom action. Some people put tape on the barrel to help dampen the action.

Thanks John & Jonmanjiro!
Those are things I could easily try. I once heard that "zoom creep" (great expression BTW!) comes from the hardening of Rubber seals in the Zoom.
I'll give it a try with the tape first!
