A photography question...

The problem I have with this approach is that when I look at the pictures I got, I invariably hate every one of them. They never compare well to the picture I wish I'd gotten or hoped I'd get.

I can't really evaluate them until that burden of expectations has worn off, and I can just look at what's really in the picture. Usually that wearing-off takes about a year, sometimes more.

So, I guess I'd say my main impediment to photography is the long delay between the original impulse and the final evaluation. Does that make any sense?

it makes a tonne of sense, though i usually go the other way...i usually like my photos less and less the farther removed from me they get. Unless i didn't get the shot i thought i got, in which case i'll probably never like it.

i have years worth of film still waiting for processing (ask bj). it will wait.
Joe may have more b&w rolls sitting unprocessed than all the b&w rolls I've shot in my life, and that's just the 120. I haven't even seen the "garbage bag of 35mm" that he talks about. But he's probably right, it's better to shoot it and let it sit than to let the moment, the opportunity, disappear.

As an aside: I think Joe's big shooting impediment right now is fear of bulk loading film! 😀 Have you made any progress, man?

as a matter of fact, young man, i just brought my empty casettes upstairs this morning.
