"A rangefinder company" is about to release a new m4/3 product?

1,000 for a lens that in DOF terms is to m43 what a bog-standard 50/1.9 is to 35mm...

Okay, it's four times as fast, great for night shooters wanting to keep ISO down or shutter speeds high, and it's a Voigtlander, and it's metal etc. etc.

Maybe they can come up with a 12/1.4 that will give us a Biogon/Elmarit equivalent? Or even a 12/1.7 and a 10/2?
 
The 4/3 format has become a standard. I wonder if most of the "big" camera companies will have a 4/3 model by the NEXT photokina. Its going to be a huge lens market for all of these companies. Maybe we will finally see lenses that are portable between most manufactures..A standard.
 
Are there any other camera manufactures showing any hint of making M4/3 body? I know Leica and Canon aren't into it, and Sony & Samsung are making APS-C EVILs. Would be great if someone drops a body with built-in EVF in PEN size. That and MF primes like this would make a great system... (personally hoping for F2 35mm 40mm 50mm (35mm equiv))

boring. im tired of 50mm lenses. why not wide angle lenses. out of every lens that has been released on the market, it is fast wide lenses that we do not have for m43.
 
It is a good start, and, yes a 14mm-18mm would have better for candid low light shooting and night urban landscape.
But, it is a challenge to others (Panasonic/Leica and Olympus) to offer faster lenses in wider focal lengths.

Let's hope it restructures some current lens road maps.
And next year we see some fast glass wars 😀 for m4/3
 
This lens is very interesting and I'm glad that 3rd party lenses are coming out, but...

Since I already have the 20mm f1.7, I would be interested in a 10mm or 12mm, or even a 14mm prime lens with reasonable speed (say, F2.0 or faster). For medium to long telephoto, I've had a lot of success using adapted Nikkor and Leitz prime lenses, and I have the native Lumix 45-200mm in the mail due to arrive tomorrow 🙂.
 
Thumbs up, smart move! Where else to start than with a fast 50? If I still had a micro 4/3 camera, this would probably be my all around goto lens. I like the Nokton 1.5/50 Classic very much and it performed very well on a Lumix G1, but I did not like the crop factor. This problem seems to be solved now.
 
Well I sure did not see that coming. It is a really neat novelty lens though. I say novelty because it while I do have a m43 camera, I would not spend around a 1000 dollars on a lens just for it. I would be more interested in dumping that money into a CV 50 f1.1, but then again either way its win win for Cosina.
