A shot with an old Elmar

Nice. I've no need for coated lenses; the older the gear is, the better it seems.

Quit making me want a III series.... and the old school lenses...

Note I said "want" and not "need" :D

Very nice shot. The 9cm F4 Elmar is also worth looking at, and often goes for ~$50. It is a great lens for portraits.

Ah! Do please hush up 'til I've found a black one.

A credit to the photographer as well as the lens; I would consider it a very nicely exposed shot. Looks like it printed easily.

Gorgeous picture. Thanks for showing it.

It never failes to amaze me that the "Leica look" comes through after being chopped into bits and bytes, squeezed through the Internet and having been reassembled by Bill Gates to show on my monitor :)

I know I will. But now that I've heard that they sometimes pop up for around $50, I'm shying from all the more expensive ones.

Get one ! You will love it..

Smashing Daniel! I have one of these old Elmars too, they are just wonderful little lenses. Mine is from 1949 and is coated, I do like the "look" from the older designs. I have new cameras, but prefer the older lenses. :)

How are the very old Elmars? I am thinking of the ones that are usually inlcuded when you get a Leica II from the mid thirties for example. Are they just fogged up and hopeless? Please say yes, I am trying to avoid getting a really old Leica... :)

Wunnerful shot! And I second the comment about the quality of the exposure - you nailed it. Makes me want to dump my Summarit fix-up project and go all the way to the source ...

I have the old 90 Elmar '39 and just love the way it takes photos and does surprisingly well with color also. Bought mine for $35, not a scratch or hazing and tghe only external wear was a slight brassing of the aperture ring. Nice black model with plastic case

Wow! Anyone here willing to part with their elmar for $50??? :) be glad to take it off your hands!

hmmm, the older lenses are becoming the flavour of the month, especially the summitar and elmar!

What a wonderful photograph. Older lenses if found in clean condition can do magic when used in the right hands. I dug up one of my old 90/4 Elmar lenses and took some photos of some friends and family today. I tend to forget about this lens. It is amazing how inexpensive such lenses have become. Good for us who want them.
