A7 with Jupiter 12

Pardon the redundancy.....
I seek reassurance.
Is the ltm Jupiter 12 (35mm f2.8 Biogon clone) safe to mount on the sony a7.
It's rear element looks so close to the sensor and still the shutter closes in front of that sensor!!
I've read it's safe and have seen results which look great!
Can the shutter really clear that big rear element of the lens?
Are there some versions of the lens that are not safe?
Do I have one of those by some chance?
There is no way to measure the distance to the shutter when it's closed.

Does it make a 'clang' and then you notice a burning smell when you take a picture?
If not, you're ok.

Should fit fine, barring a surprise. There are videos on Youtube of such a combination.

It won't fit on the crop-sensor NEX and a6000-series cameras, unfortunately. I really like my Jupiter-12 but wish I could shoot it on my digital.

Considering that I have used wider Biogon type lenses on the A7, it should be safe. That said, my results from a 28mm Biogon were beyond disappointing - even a cheap "wide converter" intended for video cameras delivered results with better corner sharpness. The A7 sensor stack really is not fit for lenses with such a low exit pupil.

I've tried the J12 on my A7S. It works without hitting anything, but flare is a problem with any light near the edge of the frame and edge smear is noticeable. J12 is better on my film Leicas.

The rear of the J12 is so extreme but if you think, it was built to clear a Zorki etc shutter, and these are anything but sleek. The issue with smaller format Sonys is the sensor surround not the sensor and the A7 has enough sensor real estate to sort that issue.

Works fine in mine. I used to use my J12 in the ricoh gxr which came with a funky little cage/basket that you could mount your leica M lenses in and check they would clear everything. Before risking them in the camera.

Results on the a7 are ok, the vignette hides the worst of the mush in the corners. A fun lens to try with a very decent central image IMHO.

Works fine on mine. The adapter mitigates the extreme rear protrusion.

With a vented lens hood, it's easy to change aperture without tweezers or a special little trained bird.
