My just purchased A7II seems to be locked in AF-C even though it is set to AF-S. I've tried re-setting but to no avail. It hunted with 4 different Sony AF lenses I have. I plan to use this body with a manual focus Loxia lens so it has no effect on focus, but it ain't right. Before I bring this back to my retailer, anybody have a clue?

Go to the far right menu, Initialize the camera, and see if that fixes it.

I did a menu re-set followed by an initialize and no change.
What do you mean that “it seems?”
A lens can hunt until focus is obtained. What light level are you testing with?
Does the menu indicate it’s set to AF-S?

I had a lens hunting on one of my Sony bodies, in fact it was an A7ii with the Sony FE 50mm f/1.8. Wrote it up in this thread.
Happened only with this one lens. Went away when I did "Settings Reset" in the toolbox menu. Never figured out what caused it.
As for "it seems...", in my case there was no doubt. Hunting continuously, in and out of focus. About 1/2 second cycle time. Good light. Good subject. Good battery. Good mystery; hope I learn the solution someday.

Got it. "Pre AF" in the (cog icon 3rd menu), needs to be OFF. And yes, I was set to AF-S so it was confusing when the camera tried to pre focus.
