A7R Verdict @ Photo Plus

I spent a few hours at Photo Plus. Most of the time I tested the A7R with two lenses: My 50mm Noctilux f1.0 and 35mm f1.2 Nokton. Let me say both lenses exhibited no distortion or color changes in the corners. Everything looked perfect. What really impressed me was how accurate the focus peaking was. My Noctilux was spot on EVERY time. I would focus on the smallest details and the Sony nailed it! Same with the Nokton. I can say this camera is worth it alone for the price is you own these two lenses, even if there are issues with wider lenses. The results were just that good! I just might stick to 35mm and above RF lenses and pick some great SLR wides as a kit for this camera. I kept on looking at the Leica booth, and I had no interest in testing the M240 after what I experienced with the Sony. By the way, the bottom grip is a MUST with the Noctiulux to hold the camera steady. In fact, with my big hands, I would never take that grip off. Still smaller than some DSLR's!

Very relieved to hear 35/1.2 is good. Was that v1 or v2?

nice to know, after sun burns out, we can still get some decent shots 😉

It's going to be a dog fight this year for camera of the year. With so many great things hitting the market. It's tough to chose just one system.

Hopefully, all this hoopla and media coverage and online forums discussios will result in many photographers realizing the fact that photography is not about camera models. Maybe there should be a "legal limit" of $999.99 that cannot be exceeded. Ugly cameras would be slammed with an extra cost so that few people buy them.

I saw it yesterday, and it was a bit odd looking but it's really nice, good feel the
back screen was clear and the viewfinder was very clear as well, hard to believe your looking
at a screen.

Hoopla about the sharpest FF sensor we've ever seen, in a form factor far smaller, far lighter, offered for a mere 2300, you know it's like getting excited about eye glasses.....1000 BC 😉

The availability of the new SONY cameras is a good thing.
It does not change the world though.

It does for many M9/M/M240 owners though Raid: because Leica is now not the only manufacturer of full-frame mirror-less digital cameras anymore.

I'll be interested to see how responsive it is, along with what lenses perform well on it.

I was out shooting with the E-M1 yesterday—what really makes me smile about it is how responsive it is to the shutter, how fast it is ready for the next shot, and how easily and quickly I can change settings between shots. And that's with a Summicron-R 90mm fitted. I can assume that sensor performance is up to the task.

If the same is true of the A7r, then it will eventually get added to my kit too.

Some people seem to forget how many factors that make people buy Leica cameras have little to do with photography. Still, the RF experience with Leica and other brand cameras has changed my outlook on photography. It is not necessarily better in all aspects, but it is better for me right now. I am not as good a photographer to need the most advanced sensor or the most advanced bla bla.

I still want to do foolish things, such as admiring the looks of a lens or of a camera.
