v4 and asph will have some colorshift, and possibly smearing at wider apertures.

I don't think either will be quite as good as the cron: but the A7r loves f/8, and by this aperture both may well be sharp across the frame. F/11 is also very very crisp as huge work has gone into mitigation of diffraction with bionz-x.

So those are not lenses I would recommend anyone buy for the A7r, but if you have them, I think you can get some great images, once you learn how the camera interacts with them.

I would guess that the v2 elmarit will be very good. In general, when it comes to RF wides with the A7r, the bigger the better.

One exception seems to be the CV 12 which as we can see above, is pretty darn good. I am holding out for some sort of native UWA solution. 🙂

Wonder why that is, is it b/c of how they protrude out the back or lack of?

Thanks, wonder what aperture. Looked at EXIF but said f1.0, so obviously wrong. Very detailed centre. No vigging visible

At f/2.8 obviously the edges won't be nearly as sharp as the center. They are not on film either.

But there is no question the M9 will have much better edges at f/2.8 with a 28mm lens and wider.

But as you see above the Sony is incredible in the center at all apertures.

The peepers seem to only care about the edges, LOL

Well I care if I'm shooting a landscape. I never shoot them at 2.8, an no one else does either.

Will the lens work for both low light and landscape? That's a 28 I can use. 🙂

The A7r is not an M9 or 240. You can create images on the sony which are impossible on the Ms and vice versa. Go to original full size and look at the detail the elmar gives on the yellow tiller. You will never get that with any M--at least I have not seen anything close, yet. I always keep an open mind. 🙂

But wide open with wide angles the Ms kill the sony on the edges, no doubt about it.

I am just looking for the lenses the sony likes the best, cause that's what I have 🙂

Is there any links to show a side by side comparison? Just how bad is the edges, for street it cannot be that bad unless you're shooting architecture. You can crop out also, but the casts can be fixed with cornerfix or that LR plugin?

You mean third pic? What aperture, f11? And can you collapse into the 7R body? How about a 50mm f2.8 elmar -- is that collapsible?

But how much of the edges are we talking about. And that can't be fixed in post (non-Architecture as above). I'd like to see a wide open test between both cameras with same lens. You seen any, links?

Peepers, or maybe someone who would like to be able to place a subject outside the center of the frame. I guess one could turn on APS-C mode and get better edges, though.

Personally, I am not going to bother using high end M lenses on a camera that can't handle them. I don't use really wide M lens on a Fuji X because it can't handle them, even at a 1.5 crop. The great thing about the Sony is the ability to fill in the wide ranges with smallish SLR lenses (like OMs) at full frame. So, I'll live with the Sony weaknesses till a good native wide solution is available...

Awesome! Is that the Leica 50/2.8 elmar, with a screw mount adapter? Where did you look up the flange distance details?

Here's a shot with the A7 and 35mm Summilux ASPH FLE. I shoot a lot of performances and so opted for the short lag and quietness of the A7's EFC 😀
 
As this is the most active a7 thread... If a current 5n user wanted to buy one today -what are the cliffnote, one line answers to the following?

1.) a7 seems to be better than a7r with legacy lenses?
2.) Legacy SLR (think Leica R) lenses perform better than RF?
3.) Are there any issues with any of my existing adapters?
4.) What can I expect from my existing natives?
5.) What is the preferred (new FF) native?

I REALLY want an M9, so sell me!

I am considering an A7 as a means of using a 50mm Summilux (E43 or E46 pre-asph). Short story--I use a D3S most of the time with the 24mm, 35mm, and 85mm f/1.4 G lenses. I've had the 50mm f/1.8D, f/1.4 D, and f/1.4G and I haven't really loved any of them. So, I have two goals--get a smaller and lighter carry-around camera and a great 50mm. I've considered the Zeiss ZF.2 50mm f/2, the OTUS, and the new Nikon 58mm f/1.4 for the Nikon DSLR, but all this analysis and number crunching has me wondering if an A7, adapter, and a 50mm Summilux might not be the best way to kill both birds with one stone.

What I would love to know is this. Is there any post processing required that is a unique result of trying to use this combo. I post process my images for effect, but I do not want to have to correct a troublesome artifact of this combo (like the purple corners I've been seeing on a number of wide angle lenses on the A7R.)
