Kansas. OMG. Kansas.
Holy cow, these lenses are going up in price like crazy! ebay item 320227207540 (in German). I cannot believe the same lens I recently got for $300 or so sold for nearly $1000. Wow. Anybody knows what is going on?

Not sure what is going on, Andy. First there is the Euro ... Then, that lens looks unusual in that the part in front of the aperture ring is chrome not black. I have not seen that before.

Roland.

That's sure a high price for this lens and I paid $300.00 for mine also ... so what's the catch? Is there something about this paticular lens we don't know? 😕

Hi Roland, thanks for taking a look. The chrome front ring, it does make it look more elegant and definitely unusual. I've been hunting Canon LTM lenses lately and have noticed what I think may be an upward trend in prices, on ebay and among some collectors. Makes me regret selling the 135mm Canon a long time ago, for $50 or so 🙂

You should definitely try the 50/1.4, Andy ...

Kevin has some all black 50/1.2 for sale. They look cool, too.

Roland.

see what happens when we hype lenses on this forum.
🙂

The chrome ring makes the lens even more elegant looking. Maybe it is a special lens? The selling price is unusually high.

I think someone chucked the front ring of that lens in a lathe, and machined off the black paint. The tone and finish of it don't match the rest of the lens at all. Maybe machining off some damage?

John,

I agree with your assessment. I also found the finish to be different looking. It looks good though. Maybe the buyer thought that this is a special lens version.

Hi Roland,

I could not find any Canon all-black 50/1.2 lenses on Kevin's site. Could you point out where I should look? I think the 50/1.2, 35/1.8 and 50/1.8 lenses of this type are all very rare.

Brett

Sorry, Brett, I misspoke. They were there a few months back but are gone now.

Roland.

In Austria and germany Canon RF's are somwaht unusual and a Canon P can cost up to 500$+.
This and the polished part can be responsible for that price.
Otherwise I do think so that Lenses/Cameras recommended on RFF take a rise the Jupiter 3/Zorki 3 are a god example. I doubt that RFF is THE cause but it's something like a seismograph for pricing development of RF gear

We can always test the theory.
let us say we choose a target lens,a Serenar 50/f1.9 or an Industar 26m for example.
members here will start posts- extolling the virtues of such a lens.
-show photos and gush over Bokeh taken by such a lens.
we will keep this up for awhile and we should also track prices on auction sites, dealers, classifieds etc.
other photography sites will be parroting all this unwittingly after a time.
I am sure we will see a rise in prices.

Hi,

Canon only made THREE ALL black lenses. These were the 50mm f/1.8. 50mm f/1.2 and the 35mm f/1.8 lenses. I have the first two but not the 35mm. This chrome filter ring 50mm f/1.2 probably has had the badly chipped black paint removed...acid???

The "all-black" 50/1.2 looks like this one: All black except the base ring with DOF scale and infrared marks. Black distance scale too. I haven't seen them very often.
