Hood for the Canon 50/1.2?

So I recently bought the 50/1.2 again. I had different copies of the lens and this lens is one of my favorites. Now before, I used to have the OEM hood for it. I cannot find it now, and looking at prices online they are damn pricey. Has anyone used an alternative hood for this that works well?
 
Recently I have been using an old Canonet Lens hood which has a thumb screw locking device. It seems to be the one linked below (it looks like it as both has the odd cut out in the front of the hood which seemed to be a feature with some Canonet hoods - if someone knows why, I would certainly like to know). Notwithstanding the unusual cutout it works fine and even manages to look good when in use. A minor issue is that my Canonet hood will, if I do not tighten it sufficiently, push backwards against the aperture ring which makes that hard to turn. Some versions of the hood may not have this issue. But in any event this can be remedied by me tightening the thumb screw as tightly as you can using finger strength - I would not suggest using a mechanical device like pliers to do this and it's not necessary in any event. But I would also advise using a 55mm UV filter as well as the extra depth helps in the above regard.

This is the locking version I have but there is a version which also is push on and the latter may not fit - so just be aware.

Another thing I used for a while was a good quality metal screw on, aftermarket one from China. Only problem is it was only available in silver (looks great though) and in 58mm diameter. The latter was fixed by the addition of a 55mm to 58mm stepping ring. Mine is presently mounted on a Canon 50mm f1.4 in FL mount where it looks superb due to the silver / black livery of that lens. It looked about as good on the 50mm f1.2.

Finally, the clamp on T60 Canon hood for the 85mm f1.8 lens in FL mount will work fine though it is 58mm in diameter (55mm is what is needed for this lens). When I tried this solution I seem to recall, that I packed out the inside of the clamp-on ring with felt (the sort used to stick on the bottom of obects d' art to stop them scratching furniture and available in hardware stores). Just find some felt that is fairly thick to take up the difference in diameter. If 4 of these felt shims are mounted on opposing sides that means 3mm/2=1.5mm thick for each piece of felt is what you need. Then tighten the locking screw really tight when the hood is mounted. Other packing material (like thin shims of metal or plastic glued in place) could work even better as they do not compress like felt. Alternatively a 55mm - 58mm stepping ring combined with a 58mm filter would work, though I am not sure how it would look.

I have the original Canon lens hood that I got years ago (Thank God I bought it then). For daily use, I use the Olympus lens hood for the Zukio 55mm f/1.2 (Not to be confused with the Olympus 50mm f/1.2 hood which is 49mm size). It's a perfect match.
 
I have the original hood, but it can slip off. It also is very costly. I mostly use a 58mm screw on lens hood (for any brand).
 
I lucked out a few years ago at a local camera fair when a older guy there had two huge cardboard cartons of old lens hoods - both metal and plastic ones. He only wanted $1 each so I pigged out on them, buying about 20 hoods in various sizes and types that I thought might work or be adapted to various vintage lenses I use on my digital cameras. One or two were relative rarities
Authentic lens hoods for lenses like the Canon 50mm f1.2 are particularly expensive and rare (the 0.95 even more so) so even if I happen to own one - and I do not own one for this specific lens - I prefer not to use it in the field and prefer instead to use a suitable cheaper alternative so long as it works. Someone mentioned a 55mm diameter Minolta hood below and I had forgotten in my earlier post that I had picked up one of these somewhere - perhaps at the above fair. It is currently mounted on one of my lenses though not I think not the Canon. These can sometimes be found very cheaply as manual focus Minolta is kind of an orphaned system.

Thank you for that. I have been scratching my head for ages over it. I spent hours on Google looking for images that might throw some light on it. Without success needless to say.

Thank you davhill. That solves the riddle nicely. In any event it works well on the Canon 50mm f1.2 being 55mm in diameter and a good length for a 50mm lens. And is certainly worth having if you cannot find the original at a reasonable price. I have to say that I have a preference for hoods with a clamp fit. Not sure why - perhaps it is just because they a little different from the run of the mill screw-on ones most commonly and cheaply available in eBay. It does mean they can dislodge if they are night sufficiently tight but at least they do not run the risk of the hood locking onto the lenses filter thread mount as occasionally happens. They are also quicker to removed for easy cleaning of the front element when that becomes necessary. (I have to say I wish whoever owned my 50mm f1.2 before me had been a bit less "thorough" in his cleaning habits - the front surface looks like an ice skating rink after a heavy evening of use). 🙁 Which of course is why I need a hood in the first place.
