Not sure if it is allowed to discuss here, but I just got a quote from Sherry for my 35cron Ver.1. An full overhaul is $145 tag and result in $186.1 in total. Despite of 8% sale tax in NY, the shipping is $29 via UPS Ground?

I know I'm not talking about big money but still, most this kind of service just charge $5~$10 for the shipping.

Am I the first one had question about it?

She insures the lens for its full replacement value when shipping, and a 35 Summicron is $1500-$2000 used now. That is why the shipping costs so much.

I'd cringe about paying $29 for shipping, but if you're set on using Sherry and she's set on using UPS then you're stuck. No harm in asking her to send via USPS flat rate

Edit: also I just checked FedEx and a ground shipment across the country with insurance for $2000 is only $23, and ups is typically cheaper than FedEx

You think I didn't try;) She has quite a personality .... Anyway, temping to see my lens back and experience the legend...lol

$29 for a one pound box is way high. Never have been a fan of people that jack up shipping. A business that ships often can get far cheaper insurance than the freight companies charge, also. Those rates are rip offs. Buy insurance from insurance companies, not shipping companies...

+1, not to mention her work is super and done right the first time around!

There's no denying Sherry's quality work, but that's only $10 less than how much she charged me to ship my M5 back to Japan. How much does UPS charge to insure?
