I'm looking for recommendations for an adapter/source for adapters that will mount my 28mm skopar straight on my Leica M4-2.

I used to have one (pretty sure it was a no-name) that seemed to do the job properly but no longer have it. I've tried a couple no-name adapters recently that mount the lens up crooked (focus reference dot at about 11 o'clock when viewed from the front).

Apparently I could adjust the lens, but would rather not. I'm prepared to buy a Leitz, Voigtlander, Rayqual, etc. but would want to be sure they would be perfect for the price they command...

The focus reference doesn't matter at all, anything between 11 o'clock and 13 o'clock is completely normal. The correct rangefinder coupling is the only thing that matters.

Yeah, I realise that, and it's something I'll probably get past with counselling 😉 but at the moment it irritates me when I look down at the scale.

Mine fits perfectly allright on all kind of adapters.

Erik.

After reading that I went to check the lens on my old Bessa R (screw mount) which I'd never thought to do before. Turns out the lens is out by the same amount on the Bessa, so I guess the lens had been adjusted at some point and the adapter I used to have matched it (or I'm imagining things, it is a long time ago). Strange thing is I'm sure the lens was sold to me as new in 2008, and the adapter definitely didn't come with it...

Maybe counselling is the answer.

Mark this up as a pointless thread, but thanks for your help! I'll just fade into the background now.

If you have a well fitting screwdriver you can take off the chrome ring on the back (3 screws, careful, they damage easily, don't lose them). I think you can replace the ring in different positions (usually 3). Often these lenses came from the factory with the chrome ring in the wrong position; the 50mm f/2.5 often has the same problem.

Super fine lens, btw.

Just been reading about doing just that. Apparently I need a JIS screwdriver (looks like Phillips head, but not), just have to figure out what size. And yeah, really great lens.

I'd give the counselling a go. Older lenses were set up to be off centre to avoid being blocked by VFs or meters on the hot shoe. While this isn't the age it is the effect. By comparison try a Pentax screw mount in a Pentax adapter on a K mount camera. They end up upside down (almost). Compared to that a few degrees is nothing.

When you remove the chrome mounting ring of a Color-Skopar 50mm f/2.5 you'll see that this ring can be mounted on three different positions. On Leicas it is nice to have the indexes of the f/stop and the distance on top.

I don't doubt you Erik. I am also saying that older screwmounts for Leicas have the infinity setting away from top dead centre. It was the M mount and associated multi lens VF that led to TDC markings on RF lenses. And that was a mere 60 or so years ago... ;-)

None of my LTM lenses mount at 12 o'clock with any of m M adaptors. And my adapters range from Leica to Voigtlander to cheap ones. It bugged me a teeeeny bit at the beginning, but they all worked so well that I got over it.

p.s. I also have that 28mm lens and it is a cracker!

OK, I know what you mean. This was done because the VIDOM and VIOOH finders prevented a free sight from above on the lens.
