No one in this thread is arguing this. The new features are very impressive and CS5 seems to do A LOT more than CS4.

This was exactly the point. CS5 doesn't blur the lines between reality and artificiality anymore than previous versions of photoshop.

Im sure that we all find this deplorable,.........my point is that possibly,I dont know this for sure obviously,but if not photoshop 5 then 6 or 7,this would have gone undetected........This is a very small lie ,a competition entry,but if Im looking at reportage there needs to be some form of control on the accuracy of the information presented.
Brian,the jpeg is only a suggestion,if that cant work then another way must be found.Maybe a simple declaration by the photographer is enough but its obvious from this example that that is open to abuse.

p.s.Im sorry the illustration has come out so small,.........there is evidence of one of the figures being cloned so the jury has withdrawn the prize given by Doctors of the World for the best humanitarian photography.

Well, I did understand it as being directed at me as I was the only one in this thread who said something which could be misunderstood as saying CS5 isn't an improvement over CS4. Didn't take it personally, really, but it was late and I wasn't in the mood to write a long reply.

Am I agreeing with you about the awesomeness of CS5? Hell yeah.

I can see that embedding a jpg would not be very practical, but Canon has had a solution for detecting image manipulation for years. The data verification kit...

Actually the cs5 does have a few very impressive functions, much more complex and user friendly than previous versions. I saw the demo video a while ago. Very impressive.

Have a look for the original Burnt Vietnamese Girl picture vs the one that won the Pulitzer Price. The original one shows soldiers walking along ignoring the children, but they were cropped out.

Mao had his sigarettes removed from his photos, and did Capa stage that soldier shot?

Even photojournalism isn't the truth, and never was.

Governments need people gullible (its true because it was jn the paper, on TV, I saw a picture), they make nice and loyal voters 😉

I like the surreal aspect of photography, anything to help people abandon reality is my friend.
