You didn't answer my question. Could you afford 800$ of film and family?

I have two kids, one about to enter college. My son's private school's tuition is more expensive than 80% of the USA's universities.

So yes, I can afford film and family. I can afford cameras too. In my camera bag are three Fujifilm rangefinders: A GF670, GF670W, and TX-1.

Ko.Fe. It is one thing to not be able to afford it because money is very tight. Then by all means, photography is luxury. However, it is another thing if you have the money, but your wife thinks your hobby is a waste of time so she thinks you shouldn`t spend the money. Then a new wife is needed. $700 a year is not a lot to spend for photography unless you really just can`t afford it. By the way, don`t you have a few leicas and lenses?

Christmas surprise by Adox: Their wonderful CHS 100 II film is back:

It is already available in sheet film. 35mm and 120 are coming a bit later.
This film is coated on their modernised coating machine in Marly (former Ilford Imaging Switzerland, bought by Adox in 2015).
You can get it in all standard and non-standard sheet film sizes:

After a look through the options it appears that us whole plate shooters are still out in the cold. At least Ilford keeps us in mind during their yearly runs.

I wasn’t giving him or you advice. I was just generalizing. If photography is important, you’ll figure out how to do it. A Leica is too expensive for some, a $10 roll of film is too expensive for others. I am of the opinion that your wife should support your interests and vise versa. Life is too short to be unhappy.

None of the Adox films costs 10€ or 10 US$.

You will probably also can get whole plate sheet film from Adox: Just ask them. AFAIK their sheet film cutting machines are extremely flexible and can cut any format you want.

For what it's worth , in B.C , Canada there's pretty well no film available that's less than $10 a roll ( and our taxes up that ~14% ) . But I'd sure like to try any of these slower Adox films 🙂 , is Santa listening ? Peter

I read here that a 36-exposure roll of Tri-X cost $1.15 in 1957. I don't know if that's true; I wasn't around then. But assuming it is true, that works out to $10.27 in 2018 dollars. B&H has Tri-X for $5.79. Not bad!

Due to my results, CHS 100 II surpasses Fomapan 100 in all parameters: Sharper, better resolution, finer grain, better characteristic curve, higher effective speed, better AHU, better QC.
In comparison to FP4+ CHS 100 II is sharper and higher resolving. But FP4+ has a bit higher speed.

Yes, unfortunately I have had several different QC problems with Foma films in the past, like pinholes, black spots and converting problems (120).
Some friends of mine and members of our local photo club, too.
You get what you pay for: At such very low prices a manufacturer had to make some compromises in production.

I need at least 40 rolls per year to call it as photography, not a hipsta status on forums with three rolls per year developed, scanned in the lab.

I shoot 3 films per year on average. No digital.
I still call it photography.

The reason why I loaded up the truck ^^^ (see my photo above) is that PhotoImpex seems to charge 35 Euros for shipments to the USA as a start. Or at least that was my experience on my initial order go. So I ordered a lot of film, and the shipping was not much more than 35 Euros, and I got the film that I could not get anywhere else at the time. And the price per box was very reasonable, due to the quantities ordered.

6.5x9cm and 2.25"x3.25" sheet film is not easy to find. Choices are very limited.

I wonder how much BH or Freestyle would charge me to get some Ektar 4x5 over here? The film is much dearer in the EU (58 EUR vs 37 USD for a 10 sheet box!)
