I am now using Advanced Metering Mode in my M-P 240 in order to be able to utilize the spot metering. i notice that every time when on or off the camera, there will have click sound. The manual also tells about this 'audible' sound.

My question is that if i always use this mode, it will have physical negative impact to the camera in the long run or not, comparing with classic mode. Or it can be overlooked. Thanks

Advanced metering uses live view. The click is the shutter closing and then firing. No harm to the camera; just a tiny bit of lag.

In advanced, the shutter remains open so the sensor reads the light, then when you press the shutter release, the shutter has to instantly close, open, close and then open again for more metering. The faster the shutter speed the faster that has to happen. Given that it's basically using 2 shutter actuations for every shot, I can't see how it can help but put twice the mileage and wear on the shutter mechanism.

That, plus the lag, and with the shutter open however long between shots, I would have to conclude there's much more chance for any dirt inside the lens opening to get on the sensor.

Personally I have never used advanced metering on mine. I've done perfectly well with the standard M metering since the 80's (M6) and narrow-latitude slide film. Once past the initial learning curve, I don't find it any less "accurate" than spotmetering.
