I've searched the rules and forums to see if I am allowed to ask advice on pricing and haven't found anything on it, so please forgive me if I am breaking a rule. I am selling a good rangefinder and two lenses at a local swap meet and was wondering if it's okay to ask advice on pricing on this site? I've checked e-bay and seen quite a range, although the camera doesn't come up that often. Thank you.

I doubt that there is any rule-breaking by your question. If so, I'm sure there will be soemone who will offer their knowledge of the rules.

In the meantime... More details about the camera, and perhaps some pictures, would help get your question answered.

Welcome. People do it all the time. What are you selling ?

Roland.

Thank you!

I'm selling a Minolta CLE with a 40mm/2 M-Rokkor and a Voigtlander 28mm/3.5 Color Skopar (with M-mount adapter). The camera works flawlessly but has a couple of minor scratches. The lenses are in great condition. Thanks again.

... assuming they are "minty".

Yes, because it's important that they smell fresh.

But seriously, that's an asinine term and one that should stop being used immediately.

If it has scratches (light or otherwise), it can no longer be described as "minty."

You'd probably do better on this forum or eBay than at a swap meet. People go to swap meets to find super bargains.

I'm selling a few things at the meet, but will definitely not let this system go for less than a reasonable price. If nobody is interested there I'll put it up on this site first. Thanks again to everyone for their advice.

To simply establish and upper and lower limits, just go to the KEH website. The "sell your gear" section will compute what they will pay for it. Obviously, you are not going to sell it to someone for less that you can bundle it up and sell it to KEH. And then you can see what they sell the same equipment for. It is unlikely that a smart buyer will pay you more than they can buy from KEH since KEH is a known entity, has a 60 day warranty and money back guarantee.

Of course there will be a substantial spread between what KEH pays and what they sell for. They do try to cover overhead and make a profit. But your price is somewhere between depending on just how motivated you are to sell.

Nobody is upset, Frank. "Minty" IS an asinine phrase. It means nothing, really.

"Mint" means something in numismatics... there are published and accepted standards for the use of that term for grading the condition of coins.

But what is "minty"... just another way of saying "not like new", something less, some wear or damage visible.

And besides, cameras never were "minted"... coins are minted; Cameras are manufactured.

But I am glad that your funny-bone was tickled. 🙄

Okay, then I think it's asinine not to understand that minty means almost mint, as well as a kind of pleasant fresh taste. Language evolves.
