Advice Requested: How to receive payment from Belgium

Paypal would be easy and relatively safe. Getting a postal money order works also well.
It is too bad that there seems to be little trust left between buyers and sellers.

Paypal.
Deliver to a paypal confirmed address.
You must have sime proof of delivery-- insured for full value and tracking with delivery confirmation.
Don't cheat customs.
Don't under-insure.

Another vote for Paypal.

I've used other methods in the past for international transactions and found that they were somewhat of a costly faff.

Ellen,

Check with your bank(s) to see what options they have.

Sorry I can not be more specific but every bank is different. Tell your bank what you want to do keep asking what other options they come up with till they say they have no more three times. Often you need to talk with an "Officer" rather than a teller (more training and higher level of responsibility), perhaps a branch manager or assistant manager.

Thank you so much! Thanks to your great advice I was able find out the best way for me to receive a wire transfer. 🙂

First I contacted my local credit union where I have a bank account. They told me they do not receive foreign wire transfers.

Then I contacted Schwab where I also have a bank account. They told me that I can't receive foreign wire transfers through that bank account as they are not licensed to do so. However, I am able to receive foreign wire transfers through my brokerage account at Schwab. There is no fee to receive a wire transfer. She gave me detailed instructions which apparently depend on whether the buyer sends the funds using US Dollars, Euros or the British pound sterling.

I think I am all set to let the buyer know how to do this using bank wire transfer.
