AgfaPhoto APX 400 New Emulsion (New Emulsion is not printed anymore on the current boxes, by the way) is just Kentmere 400 film.
In a different packaging. And at a significantly higher price. Same is valid for Rollei RPX 400, also only Kentmere 400 at a much higher price.
Kentmere 100 and 400 have a worse AHU compared to FP4+/HP5+, resulting in less sharpness and resolution and a bit of halo-effect in backlighting situations.

As HHPhoto said it's Kentmere 400 but unlike RPX400 (35mm, 120 and I believe 4x5) it's not available in other film formats 35mm only. The grain is not the finest and the grain structure is not everyones cup of tea. Otherwise a very Ilford film, it seems to look great pushed by one stop which ads some contrast to an otherwise rather flat film.

It is a good film. Reminds me Foma400 a lot, quite milky results. I tried in Rodinal and HC110, Rodinal gave grain the size of a football. With HC110 is much better, experiment to get a bit higher contrast (although you can correct it on a computer).
Overall, I prefer the T-Max and HP5+ films but if I find them cheap, I will buy again. Good film for an everyday film photographer on a budget.

Many thanks Jan and Dominik and giannakis. I bought this film mid-2016, in Bucharest. The box is grey, the lettering is b&w/red and the 'new emulsion', and '400 ISO' is printed in green. As far as I remember, it was not very expensive. It expires Nov 2019. I'll give it my best and post whenever I can develop & scan the film in Ho Chi Minh City. Many thanks for your feedback.
On a related note, I have some TriX and Tmax...expired about a year and a half ago. These rolls were in the freezer for about a year. I am currently living in the tropics and I wonder if these rolls will have degraded a lot or a little. Many thanks for your best advice. Cheers, Peter

after some time in the freezer, most probably only the base fog will be a bit higher (due to the extended exposure to natural radioactivity). but after a year or two, my guess is that you'll just notice it when comparing to a newly produced film.
