i am going to pick up a few rolls of APX 100 tonight and am looking for opinions and or recommendations on it. i'm buying it on a whim because it's cheap and local and i'm bored with tri-x.

thanks!

Rodinal 1:50 is a classic recipe for APX100. My other not-so-secret recipe for it is D-76 stock in 24C for 6min 30sec. First 30sec continuous agitation then 3-4 inserts each minute.

It is smooth and fine grained in D76 stock, in Rodinal it is somewhat more grainy but sharp. I prefer it in D76 but have been developing it in Rodinal lately as I am too lazy to mix more D76. Did try it in HC110 but did not like it as much as either D76 or rodinal.

I shot two rolls so far on a box of 20. I'm quite please with it. I've used Xtol so far as this is what I had, but next one will be in Rodinal to see how it goes.

While I agree that Rodinal is the most natural choice for APX 100, I have yet to find a developer to get really bad tones from it.

Xtol works nicely (I have tried 1+1 and 1+2 so far), and Spur SD2525 produces lovely results as well...

thanks for the examples and advice. i picked up the film and will post examples when i can.
i wish i had talked to the seller earlier, i got the last three 100' rolls at $10 each. he had another ten that went to someone else...
