That's really me
For being out of production for so long cold stored APX has sure been around the market for quite a while.

I've asked AgfaPhoto whether this is old stock or new production.
Agfa films have been off the scene for a while. I would think that most of the film would be expired by now, especially the color films and particularly the transparency film.
Have you read anything about any new film factories being built? Hmm? Think it might make news if it were to happen, hmm? There are no new film factories.
Lupus is the company that bought a license to sell remaining Agfa photo stock (and chemistry) under the Agfa brand name. Agfa Photo Gmbh is bankrupt and gone, it no longer exists as a going concern.
About Lupus for the people who cannot read:
Lupus Imaging & Media is an internationally operating production and distribution company dealing in imaging and media products such as film, single use cameras, analogue and digital cameras, flash memory cards, USB flash drives, energy products (batteries and rechargeable batteries), photo frames and photographic papers.
Did you catch that part about 'production and distribution company'? They don't MAKE anything. They 'produce' things. That means they package and sell. They were the ones selling the Agfa film that was still in the deep freeze originally, and they apparently have some more to sell. Not a bad idea, since it won't keep forever, and neither will a viable market for it. It's called 'get out while the getting is good'.
Ferrania USA is the former Imation company in Oklahoma, which before that was Dynacolor, for fossils who remember that far back. They used to really truly make film, but that was decades ago. Now they just sell film in generic boxes to grocery stores and convenience stores and drug stores. That "Kroger" brand film sold in grocery stores is branded by Ferrania USA, and is made by Ferrania Italy (Solaris). It's craptacular. In any case, the deal makes sense. The retail channel is about to get an infusion of 'Agfa' branded film, and that will soak up whatever surplus Lupus has managed to get their hands on.
If a film manufacturing plant had been built, the industry would have heard about it. There isn't one.

AgfaPhoto to wind up
October 21, 2005
Frankfurt: AgfaPhoto said it would probably be out of business and its 2400 employees without work by the end of the year after it failed to find anyone who wanted to buy it.
The Leverkusen photographic film company had filed for bankruptcy protection in May amid declining sales and fierce competition from digital cameras.
The company had been in talks with Britain's Photo-Me International about a possible takeover but spokesman Thomas Schulz said those talks were halted after creditors rejected the offer.
Agfa Photo is gone. Remaining Agfa film is from cold storage.
If you can read German, here's the story of how they get their film.
http://www.photoscala.de/Artikel/Agfa-Filme-Das-derzeitige-Sortiment
It says that their cold-storage supplies are enough to last until 2012.
Babelfish Translation:
The film is at least still until 2011 or 2012 available “, promises Ludwig. The Scala Lupus offers not only in the 36er-Kleinbildpatrone, but also as roll film to 120.

Are you people ALL brain-damaged? Agfa is not coming back. It's just a name. No new film manufacturing, no new film. It's great that what's left in cold storage is going to be sold off while it still has some value, but it's not 'new' film and there is no 'new' manufacturing going on. Jaysus, you'd think you guys would have half a brain between youse.
But, I can hope that someone will put out another transparency film. And, I don't really care whose name is on it. I like variety.
This is good news, if Ferrania can do it right. They were a big supplier to 3M and I never felt that film was as good as Agfa.
Now if they would only bring back Portriga Rapid, I would re-open the darkroom...
Bill: "before that was Dynacolor, for fossils who remember that far back. "
I worked across the street from the old Dynacolor finishing plant in Rochester, NY. I guess I am now officially a fossil.

Bill: Why are you getting so emotionally attached to this? What do you care if, as you seem to think, you are right and everyone else in the world is wrong?
Nowhere has it been stated that all the product is leftover film from cold storage. Your distinction between "production" and "manufacturing" is cute, but hardly convincing. Do you have confirming communication from Lupus to support your claim? If so, produce it here.
So far you have just ranted about how stupid everyone else is, and quoted fragments of press releases written by PR folks. Maybe the equipment and formulas and remaining chemicals were sold off with the brand rights.
Then again maybe you're one of the lawyers who negotiated the deals and have inside information and hang out on RFF just for the fun of laughing at those with lower IQs
Dude, chill.

Well-known
On Page 11 of the Agfa technical PDF of information on APX 100 & 400 it shows that yes they have all of the new products for color and BW in 120. I am not going worrying about the particulars just "try it" and "test it" and if it is good as the APX I have in the freezer then use it. But I have been able to ask if a slower BW film will also be coming. Now lets see what they say.

I have no idea what they are really selling and where it is coming from (there's too little info at present), but I'd certainly stock up on some of this, especially the slide film, when and if it becomes available and if the price is reasonable.

looking at the semantics used, perhaps Bill is correct. Might be best to save the excitment untill product is on the shelf ,huh?
These PR and press folks know they have power of lanuage, you and i might split hairs over the difference between ` production, and manufacture' only the original writer knows what is intended.
Now i live in a small town [ pop. 68000] Yesterday I went to pick up a film that my 9 yr old son dropped in for developing , had not used this particular place before - the film drawer for pickups was packed, my guess, over 100 films ready for pickup, off course the digital kiosks were busy also. The woman serving stated this was a typical amount for them. ????? Who knows , but i do not really think it is a topic worthy of argument:bang: besides there will always be EFKE

Sad but true.
Agfa's film manufacturing business is dead
and dismembered. Adox bought some of its
coating and emulsion confectioning equipment,
and hired some of its key employees, and is
trying to bring Agfa products back to market.
They have already brought back MCP and MCC
papers. They have announced that they will
bring back all Agfa B+W emulsions in all
formats, but only after current Agfa film
has been emptied from the distribution chain.
So, if you want fresh Agfa films in sizes other
than 35mm, you'll have to hang tight and hope
that Adox delivers on the films the way it has
already delivered on the papers.
maddoc
... likes film again.
That's what actually happened. A company was founded (located in Monheim, not to far from the old Agfa in Leverkusen in Germany) as a startup and their products are related to coating. The name is "Inoviscoat" and amongst other products they produce photo paper under the label "Adox".
This "new" Adox eventually partnered up with some former Agfa ngineers to set up a paper production on used Agfa production equipment in Germany, but as far as I know of that is a paper only thing and does not involve Efke.

From Wikipedia...
AgfaPhoto GmbH is a European photographic company, formed in 2004 when Agfa-Gevaert sold their Consumer Imaging division. Agfa (the former parent company, which merged with film manufacturer Gevaert in 1964) had for many years been well-known as a producer of consumer-oriented photographic products including films, photographic papers and cameras. However, within a year of the sell-off, AgfaPhoto had filed for bankruptcy.[1]
The various product brands are now being licenced to various companies by the holding firm AgfaPhoto Holding GmbH. Minilab service and chemicals are e.g. now sold by A&O Imaging Solutions, and AgfaPhoto Vista Brand Film is sold by Lupus Imaging & Media.

Agfa is not completely dead.
What died in 2005 is the german branch. the belgian branch is still very much alive and even profitable. They still manufacture film for aerial photography. Those aerial films are the base of the new Rollei range Retro 80s, 400s and superpan 200. They are excellent, especially for landcape, IMHO. Those films bear the Agfa brand and logo. I do not like the 120 rolls packaging of superpan 200, though, it is way below the standards of the big 3.
Vista is not made anymore and will never, ever, be made agin. Colour film production simply does not work for small quantities and i am afraid a business plan to start a new colour film production would be pretty hard to put together.

Produce a new film factory. Burden of proof is always on the original statement.
So far you have just ranted about how stupid everyone else is, and quoted fragments of press releases written by PR folks. Maybe the equipment and formulas and remaining chemicals were sold off with the brand rights.
The factory was torn down, and the machinery was sold off to a South Korean company, which hauled it to South Korea for making coated film products (not photosensitive coated film products). What was sold was the right to use the name, and Lupus has managed to purchase master rolls that were created and put in cold storage before Agfa Photo shut down.

I would like a better transparency film than Dynacolor. The ones I have faded and my Kodachromes and Ektachromes are still perfect.
