I just tried my agfa optima 1035 for the first time and I was wondering: Why didn't the film roll back properly when i pressed the button? I hears it do so. Was there another button I should have pressed? All I did was to press with a pencil the button on the side of the camera. I didn't understand how to use the R button at the top of camera and is its function, I guess it's part of my problem, right?

And another couple of questions: What is the V button on front for, is it connected to my first problem? And why doesn't the flash I installed on the camera work?

Thanks,

Avner.

The film does not "roll back" but it can be rewound with the transport lever when you switch its odd one-lever transport/rewind mechanism to R (for rewind). The gears have a tendency to clog up, so it is possible that your camera is stuck in one mode regardless of switch position.

The flash has some odd mechanics with a micro switch in the socket - it is not that uncommon that it needs a cleaning too.

sold the 1535 n buy a 1035 instead with some savings too :)
i found the shape of 1035 is much compact and beautiful than 1535.
but ..why agfa did not print the distance scale on top, together with that 3 simbols ? if so it would had been much easier for the guessing!

Hi Everyone!
I just bought the 1035 and Im looking the for the user manual. Does anyone have the english version of the optima 1035 or 1535 user manual? Much appreciated!

Agfa 1035 and 1535 look similar, but aren't exactly the same shape. 1535 needs the extra space to accomodate a built-in rangefinder.
You probably have seen those handsome little hard cases Agfa produced for the xx35 series. Those are so slim-fit that Agfa 1535 wouldn't fit in...

By the way, I actually like scale focus for its fun. 1035 also has a noticeably brighter viewfinder with cute picogram, and a self-timer. 1535 has the advantage of rangefinder focus, but somehow Agfa just had to lose a self-timer on this model. So it's hard for me to decide which is really the "top of the line". I'm glad to own both. :)
Isn't the 1535 exactly the same shape as the 1035? I like the rangefinder on my 1535, i hate zone focus.

Exactly. They did print distance scales on top of the lens barrel on 1535. Wish they had done the same with 1035.
Anyway, as a scale-focus camera user, I think focusing accuracy is highly overrated!

I also think 1035 looks slightly better, even though the difference is small. It's all in the proportion.
