Agfa RONDINAX 35U User Report

I was just looking at one of those on the auction site. I really don't need it, but if one ever falls into my hands, it's good to know they work well. The only drawback is that it's a "one holer" ... if you have a backlog of film, too bad! ;)

The problem I've always had with the Rondinax is that they require constant agitation, otherwise part of the film is not in the developer. If you have a developer that wants limited agitation, you're out of luck.

For a `normal' type of tank that can be loaded in daylight, I recommend the Jobo 2400. I used these for several years before switching to SS tanks.

While I'm not personally fond of the tool (I prefer my cold steel Nikors), that is a great review - actually more of a user guide. Didn't Leica market the same tank under their own name?

Thanks for the kind words. Yes there was a Leitz version, there is actually one on ebay at the moment......

Old thread revival.

I just picked one of these up at a local camera store for a whole $5.00.

It looks like a nifty little machine. Can't wait to use it.

Thanks for the user guide it is very helpful.

You have to constantly wind the knob?
That will get tedious for 12 min. development.

Perhaps I can rig one of those Unicolor drum rotating machine to do this automatically. :)

Re-revival. My son just gave me a Rondinax 60 and a 35U along with a Durst 606 and half a dozen enlarging lenses.

I'm hoping to use the 35U fairly soon since it looks complete and in very good to excellent shape.

Thanks janrzm, your blog is really helpful.

I'd love to find a type 60 Rondinax. I missed one a few weeks ago at a national vending site, it went cheap... :(

The 35U I obtained over a year ago (EUR 10, same site) is sitting idly, I planned to x-rpocess some slide film in color chemicals with it. Someday...

I've just acquired a 60 and a 35U, both in great condition and with the original instructions. Thank you for the great review, I'm useless at getting a 120 onto a spiral so these are going to be a godsend.

I always thought one of these would be great for traveling.
Throw it in the trunk with a few bottles of premixed chemisty, and a few binder clips.

Instant Motel lab ;)

A roll of TMax 400 in Ilfotec DD-x (9:1) is hanging to dry. 12.75 minutes of developing time at 20C. Looks good so far and the process couldn't be easier. The roll is from a Canon P.

It can get a little tedious, I used to listen to some music, watch a video etc....

There was a video on Youtube where someone had rigged up a motor from meccano or something similar!!

There I found it - https://vimeo.com/35453274

That's a nice gift from your son!! That's how kids should treat their parents :)

Enjoy!!

I'm lucky enough to have both as well, they're a little neglected these days since i got the JOBO. Still the 60 and the 35u are ideal for developing the odd roll, very convenient.

I was useless with the 120 spirals also, lost a few rollsl out of sheer frustration and just giving in!!
