Aires cameras

I used one for several years...sold it to another RFF member recently. I found it to have an excellent lens and a very precise shutter. It was the IIIL model.

Just a couple of weeks ago I picked up an Aires IIIL from the esteemed Jon Goodman. Camera was in perfect condition, it had only one previous owner before Jon, and apparently serviced regularly. And anything you get from Jon is going to be in top condition.
The camera has the same quality feel to it, like Zeiss cameras from the same period. The shutter is incredibly quiet. After I had shot about a half-dozen shots with it, I thought, this thing's not working.... but of course, it was.
The viewfinder has framelines, which help in composing, also it is an advantage for people like myself who wear glasses. I can't see the entire field in the viewfinder, but with the framelines, I can still see what I'll end up with on film.
The 1.9 lens is very sharp, and will focus down to 18 inches.
Beautiful camera, I'm extremely pleased with it.

That's a real coincidence, Jon and I are replying simultaneously here about the same camera.

I have an Aires IIIc that looks good cosmetically. The shutter & apperture needed help and I did manage to fix these items. Howerver, when I try all speeds, they appear to be OK, except for "B". When i try "B", I get something that looks like 1/30 seconds. The shuttter will not stay open.

Can someone help me with this? Have I lost a part?

I am reasonably handy and have worked on other cameras. Any help on hints would be appreciated.

Thank you all,

Bill K.

Hello
Would there be other places to get an Aires 35 IIIC or IIIL besides ebay, please? They seem pretty hard to find.

Does anybody have any experience w/ an Aires III or V? What about pic quality, durability?

Bill

I have an Aires 35-III. I want an Aires 35-V (with working meter and three exchangable lenses (35mm, 100mm and 45mm - Iguess two 45mm were available - f 1.8 and F 1.5).
The quality of the shutter and lenses is very good. Film advance is weak - so they say - and prone to fail. I took some rather nice shots with my 35-III:

If you have info as to where to get a 35-V I'd love to hear from you.

I recently aqquired at 35-V - the one with interchangeable lenes and a meter. The meter works a bit like a match needle meter. On the meter is a secondary arrow (to match the needle). It has the word "Amp" written beside beside it.
Does anyone know what Amp means, please? Alternative mmetering position???
It differs by appr. 2 stops from the primary arrow.

Jens
