As one of those of us owning G1, I am full of envy. I am actually using the Lowe pro mini TZ and still I have plenty of spare place. The problem in building a G1 leather case is in overcoming the problem of its flippable LCD monitor.
Sthill there is room for Aki Asahi or others, to build a soft leather case, fitting the size of the camera much better than the crude Lowe Pro, but with the same idea. a triangular shaped case to pull the camera out at time of use.
I begg you don't force me to spend hours in doing it myself !
Cheers,
Ruben

Has anyone managed to get one of these cases from Aki Asahi?
I emailed them back in March. THey told me they were backordered, and would invoice and then send in a couple of weeks.
I've emailed twice since then. No reply either time. Four days ago told them, please let me know what's happening, I really want one of their cases but if I don't hear from them I'd have to go somewhere else. No reply. I'm disappointed by this as Aki Asahi have always been terrific to deal with.
Now I'm forced to consider other options. Has anyone here tried the Kayne-Wayne case ?

Hi Paul, the Aki-asahi web site currently has a posting in the English section that says;

We will be back around June 2010.

Yes, I did see the note. But there seem to be plenty of people other than me who contacted Aki back in March and have had no reply.
Previously the note on the website said they'd resume service late in May. They seem to have been out of touch for 6 or 8 weeks now, so whatever problem they're encountering is worse than backorders on the cases.

The Japanese page says he's overwhelmed with orders for cases and is not taking orders until he's caught up - which he expects will be around 25th June. He expects to have all orders received before he stopped orders ready to ship by 24th June.

Fantastic, jon, that's much appreciated. SOmetimes it's hard to know whether sending more than a couple of emails is too much. If there's a prospect of their resuming contact I can hang on another fortnight.
Silly question: Akihiro Asahi the name of the proprietor?

You're welcome, Paul. The name I found on the website is 中村陸雄 or Nakamura Rikuo (not sure about the reading of the second name). Sounds like a one man show, so I guess Nakamura-san is it.
There's a two page article on Aki-Asahi in the current Asahi Camera magazine. Nakamura-san's business is indeed a one man show.
