"Telegraph pole"s is funny to my US ear, is that common in the UK, rather than "telephone" or the more common "utility" poles?
Well it's what I call them but then I was having a conversation with a neighbour of similar age recently, both of us bemoaning the fact that so many terms and expressions of our youth are no longer used. So while it was common years ago I may be the only one still using it!
