Hey Guys,
I just bought an R-D1, but don't have any lenses yet! What would you guys recommend as an all-rounder. I like to shoot street
and don't want to go too crazy on my first lens
Cheers,
Justin

+1 Seems we just did this for a Bessa R.
This lens is a sweetheart for the price or at twice the price.

i think a 28 is a great first lens for this camera. it = the fov of a 43 mm on the full frame camera.
a 35 = a 53 which i find a too long for an all round lens.

any 21/24/25/28/35mm lens will do it.

Depends if you prefer wide, standard or tele lenses. Those who prefer wides will choose a 21, a 24/25 or a 28mm lens mostly. Those who prefer a standard lens will take a 35 or a 40. Those who prefer tele lenses will choose a 50 preferably. When i bring a single lens it is often the Summicron-C 40/2 personally.Hey Guys,

It's tough to find a cheaper 28, which I think would be a great starter lens on the R-D1. The cv 35/2.5 is super sharp and was my first lens (on a bessa-r), but could be a little long the R-D1 if you like wides.

Also, which retailer should I buy this from? I don't think they pop up on the classifieds too often!

You do know that you'll not be satisfied with just one lens don't you?
I keep a 40 on my rd1 most of the time, but a 28 mm works really great too. I've not used anything longer than a 50, well really a 55, so I can't comment on the longer stuff. I kinda think it is hard to go wrong with any lens on an rd1.

Very happy with a 28mm Ultron f2.0. Works great. Both in colour and in B&W.

.......sometimes i thinks
Another one for the CV 35mm f2.5.
Sweet little lens with compromise in terms of quality. Helps that it is fairly economical too.

We're all light!
True enough, and I'm somewhat partial to 28mm on the WA side, but I agree that a good 35mm (like the VC f/2.5 pancake, M-mount version) is a great way to start without killing your bank account. Take that combo and simply explore, before even thinking about other lenses. Once you're happy and comfy with that, then you can think about adding one additional lens. Repeat slowly and carefully. You do know that you'll not be satisfied with just one lens don't you?![]()

I use mostly a summicron c 40/2 The image taken just fits the 35mm vuewfinder framelines. There is a Rokkor 40/2 for sale on classifieds.

Interesting indeed. Focus shift was quite obvious with the CV 28/2 i've tested personally. Would you have some close views shot at f/2.8 - f/4 per chance?I haven't noticed any !
