Alternative for square lens cap for Summilux 35/2 ASPH

Hi Guys,

I lost one again.:bang:...

One of those rubber hoods that cover the shade on the square summicron 35/2.
And actually this is no wonder. It is a flimsy/flappy piece of rubber that 'clicks' on very lightly onto the hood. It will fly off willingly at even a small touch.😡

I can get an other one (they are espensive for what they are), but I am likely to loose it again.

Has anyone found a good alternative?
(And no thanks, not gluing a thread between it and the lens as in most digital P&S and digicam models....)

Regards,

Mad_boy (Actually Stupid_boy for loosing an other one....🙂)

Leica's vented round metal hood for the 35mm Summicron and pre-ASPH Summilux is part number 12452. It's quite small, which is nice from a handling perspective, but perhaps not so effective in terms of its flare protection. The Summicron ASPH is an inherently flare-resistant design, and the combination works well in my experience. I'd be curious to hear thoughts from those using the pre-ASPH Summilux in this regard.

It is not intended for use on the Summilux ASPH, which is a pity as I really like the size.

Best,

Hi Peter

Thanks for the observation,
It is a cron indeed (still dreaming of a lux)
I have corrected the original post....

I use a quality (B+W MRC UV) filter on the lens, the hood clips over it and so I never use the hood cover. (Also I don't have any pictures of the inside of the cover either... 😉)
