Hi all,
After melanie´s thread about the luigi strap I decided that I also need a new one because of the dry leather of my original rollei strap but spending that much for the (really beautyfull) Luigi strap seems to much for me.

after wondering what to use I came across my Leica strap wich I use and like on the M6. since Leitz didn´t use rings to attach the strap to tha camera but rather a system of open clip and "plastic sliders" was wondering if it would work..

long story short: works beautyful and IMHO even better than the crocodile clips...at least it doesn´t "drop down" into the rewind crank when the straps are relaxed. the cam feels totaly secure and I just ordered a used M6 strap for 12€! to use permanently on the Rollei.

Only downside is the black on black "Leica logo" on the pad but i can life with that 😉

here´s some pics for illustration....Do you guys have any other ideas for Rolleiflex Straps? please Post here!!

@ alkis, you´re welcome 🙂

@meleica: donno the part number but the strap you show is the right one (you can make out the description how to put the clips on the camera...thats the one!) so I guess 14253 is right.

@pherdinand: haha! oops my fault....sure its the wind crank (I´m spoiled by RF 😉 ) ...
otoh mine really is a special edition! look at the serial (in the orig. strap shot), its not in the middle verticaly and underneath there´s a capital "J" and small "t" ( Jt ) ... I still have to find out what that might mean! esp. since it´s engraved by the factory... maybe "Just a tessar" ;-)

DANGER WILL ROBINSON, DANGER! that is the INCORRECT way to attach that particular Leica strap, and when the plastic rider slips up the strap comes off the clip and Rollei goes crashing to the ground. You need to put the strap end loop over the lower bend in the clip (the one just above the Rollei's lug in your photo, not the open end of the clip as you've done. I know it isn't intuitive, in fact there was a picture of Queen Elizabeth with a Leica improperly attached like that and Leica quickly sent someone to reattach it. That strap design has long since been replaced by a newer one, mainly because so many people got the attaching wrong...even though it came with instructions which your's didn't.

Any drawback to just a regular webtype strap?

I've been thinking about a strap for TLRs for over a year now. It took a suggestion from a RFF member to get me on the right track. It's the double attach point string neck strap. My strength test had a little over 20 pounds of cameras. To test the strength of the strap I attached it to my 5x7 Burke & James with it's 10" Elgeet lens. On top is perched a Zeiss Icon Box Tengor. Hanging in front of the Burke & James is, from left to right, a Nikon F3 HP with motor drive, a Honeywell Pentax H1a, a Leica IIIc, and a Ricoh Diacord. It also works for post mount cameras like the Hasselblad, Pentacon Six and Salut-S/Kiev.

Goodphotos: nothing wrong with it...I just liked the clips from the Leicastrap fitting the rollei so well 😉

@Gordy : well done strap man! I´d love to walk around with the camera-package in the third pic 😀 ..I´m a pro, can´t you see?!

Here is a site that sells the Leica R5 Strap 14253 (No 162)

if anyone is interested. I was Googling for straps for my Rollei when I found this site.

Well, I simply turned one of the strap end o-rings around the post that sticks out from the body inside the strap attach gizmo of my Rolleiflex and attached the Domke Gripper 1.5'' to that. Works perfectly and safely, so I hope ... for the last year ...

I bought an el cheapo Rollei-style strap with alligator clips off Ebay and it works nicely. Easy on/off with nothing left dangling off the strap lugs; my old setup was a quick-release deal which left little straplets on the lugs when the strap was off.

Not super-high luxury, but certainly hasn't left me with any doubts as to its ability to hold the camera up safely, and no worries about leather dye staining my shirt...it's just narrow nylon webbing with riveted leather at the ends a small slidable leather neck/shoulder pad (dunno if that's real or synthetic leather; I suspect the pad is fake and the strap ends are real...).
