On March 14th, 2011, someone left that message on my little blog site. I really didn't think people could be so stupid, but, here's the proof.
I'm asking Mr. "Anonymous" to stand up.

I'd really like to know why he thinks I'm a poseur. I find this funny that someone thinks I "...try to sound like a seasoned photographer with a "film" history...".

Well, I am seasoned. I have 30 years of shooting film behind me. I'm sure that's longer than you've been alive, but, that's a minor detail.

Am I a great photographer? Of course not. Have I ever tried to be? Nope. Do I need to be a great photographer? Nope. Am I having fun? Absolutely. Do I care that you think I'm a poseur? Not in the slightest. Does anyone care what you think? No.

I hang out here on the RFF because there are some really cool people here, Pro, and Amateur, that enjoy sharing photos, stories, tips, tricks, and just a general love for photography with others that love photography. It's a shame you can't see that. You might have been a good guy that could contribute to someones learning. You might have been nice enough to show someone a picture you took to demonstrate another viewpoint someone overlooked. You might even have learned some things from others around you.

Instead, you hid behind "Anonymous" and called ME the poseur. You need to go back to your bubble. Some day I hope you come back and join us, there's always room for more fun, stories, picture showing, experience sharing.... but grow up first 😀

Wow. That's pretty weak. But hey, at least someone took the time to comment; they say there's no such thing as bad publicity. 😎

Seriously, I feel like a total hack compared to the vast majority of people on RFF, probably because I am. But if someone went out of their way to rub it in, I'd be a little bent. Then again, I expect the worst from humanity, and I'm rarely surprised. Roll with it, vent a little, and move on knowing that the uppity little hyperactive 12-year old who commented has already moved on to insulting someone else anonymously.

Some of us are more concerned with forgetting our 30 year histories, film or other wise. I am not sure what that should have to do with anything.

i saw a similar (completely pointless) post in one RFF thread a few weeks ago. unfortunately i cannot remember where, and who the author was - if i remember correctly, that one got expelled anyway.

delete and forget about that blog posting. he won't show up.
no use in reasoning, no use in letting it spoil your day.

I had just found their little post tonight. I did get just a little tweaked by it, but I know it doesn't mean anything. I'm not a Pro and I don't call myself a Pro, I'm constantly learning - and so much of that is from the gang here.

Just wanted to give the guy a chance to step up, and to let him know I saw his post.

I get confused when people live a portion of their public lives via the Internet and then get angry/frustrated/upset/hurt when they face negativity.

Hello! It was your choice to go public like that. Expect there to be the good and bad in everything. As is life, so to speak. He's a douche, ignore it. Have you self-censored your blog comments already? That's the next moral question I presume.

Chris, you just spent precious time of your short existence thinking and writing about this person, someone you don't know, and therefore can't know if he is worth your respect/attention. (And it is unlikely that he is, given how he spends his time.)

A wise man once told me to expect 10% to be self-involved a$$holes, and to give them less than 10% of your time-energy. Since this 10% includes family, who you are stuck with 😉, there is even less time-energy for losers who try to bring folks down to their level. Just one perspective.

Someone recently blogged about how ugly my website is and I was mortified because I've put so much energy into it but then I said to myself, *insert blogger name* is pretty dumb but it is nice they noticed.

If the person noticed, you are important, that is all that matter. If someone posted something mean anonymously they are pathetic and you should just keep on doing what you do.

1: If 'poseur' is the worst insult you get, it may be that you're being too bland

2: Anyone can be a 'poseur' from someone else's point of view. You can even call yourself a poseur if you don't live up to your own expectations (whether those expectations are realistic or not)

3: It still hurts when someone's gratuitously unpleasant. Console yourself with the praise you get from those who do like what you do.

I think it's easy to get angry about things you don't really care about. I'm sure guilty of it- anger being so irrational and often instantaneous. I'm only speaking for myself. Granted it's a waste of time, but it's not easy for me to control my temper all the time. And venting to a sympathetic audience seems like a good way to quickly move on.

I avoid comment threads like the plague on most sites for this very reason. And the anonymity part is as common as it is annoying. Ignoring comments is not really an option on your own site.
