No one should ever apologize for loving the M5 or thinking it pretty. (Or disliking it and thinking it ugly.) Some people think Bob Dylan sings well (or copies photographs in paint well)...I don't get it but that's okay. I think the M5 is awesome looking and works a trick. I also think the M3 is beautiful. It's funny that the dominant opinion on the aesthetics of a camera would make people question both their own judgement of how it looks, or even their own sanity in thinking it works well for them. If it does, it does. Who cares?

I love mine M5, I think it is very well design, this is my first and only M system for now!

Love my M5! The meter, shutter dial, visible shutter speeds in VF, feels even more "built" than other M's, even the 2 lugs which give my right hand unencumbered access to the working side of the camera. It all adds up to greater useability(?) IMO. Bob.

Oh crap, you guys are giving me major GAS. I've had many M5's in the past, but none now.
Well, there are too many Nikon F's cluttering my shelf. Maybe some will be going away.

<snip> About a year ago I got my first myself... a black one, that needed some urgent TLC from Sherry. <snip>
I hear that due to the meter complexity, the M5 is more expensive to CLA than the regular M's (incl. M6). What is your experience?

True, the CLA is a little more expensive because of the meter. Not significantly. You should also have the meter adjusted to a modern 1.5 v battery, they originally were set to a 1.3 v mercury battery.

The M-5 is Sherry Krauter’s favorite Leica. (but what does she know,eh?)
