Amateur lens test: 35/1.4 sc Nokton vs 35/1.7 Ultron

Ultron is in LTM and Nokton in M mount. Dont know about longevity, the handling of Nokton is different because it has a tab and Ultron doesn't. I don't mind the lack of tab in Ultron, but personally find it easier and faster to use the tab.

I'm afraid I have to agree. I'm both surprised and disappointed. Using the 35mm Ultron on the M8 is not good (very marked CV flare and blown highlights -- aka "CV glow"). On film, it's very nice.
 
Discussing the Nokton's abilities, I would be interested in seeing the different results in comparison with the SC and MC variant in both, b&w and colour photos - since I would like to get one of the two variants in the near future (end of the year maybe due to saving money).

Here ( http://www.cosina-voigtlander.com/content/view/72/28/) it is said that the SC is softer in contrast than the MC which gives higher contrast.

Any comments on this, please?

I'd be interested too, but unfortunately, the SC is what you often see, and to make matters worse, owners very often confuse the SC with the MC versions (I see that a lot in the classifieds too).
 
I recommend to pick the SC. Not because of color rendition, but I suspect that QA is better - at least that was the case on the various 40 Noktons that I had.

I've shot a few frames with the 40mm f/1.4 Nokton SC and the flare was about as bad as the 35mm Ultron on the M8. Wide open (both).

I'd like to shoot a MC version myself to see if that's true. I can see why this is great with film and B&W specially. But it's a poor choice for digital.

I guess having one SC and another MC for that "film or digital today, Sir?" "Why film this afternoon, Jeeves. Thank you." 🙂
